Southern California CAN MEET 10.18.08 - It's ON! - - Page 2

Why are these things always when I'm working?
Not to mention it's likely the farthest single point in SoCal from where I live
post #17 of 210
nice, marked in my calendar, tho I hate traffic around LAX :-(
post #18 of 210
I'm in. Somebody needs to PM me for buying the ticket, though. I'm not on these forums enough to notice without the email notification.

EDIT:

Also, in case anybody has these, I just want to say I'd be incredibly happy if anybody brought any of these to the meet and I could take a quick listen:

Audio-Technica ATH-ES7
Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9
AKG K 27i
AKG K701
Grado SR225
Sennheiser HD650
CMoy
M3
Pretty much any tube amp
Apogee Duet
EMU 0404 USB 2.0

It's sort of a "wish-list" of gear I want to hear/buy at some point in time, and there are no audiophile stores near me that allow testing of the cans/components, so this sounds like a great opportunity to try some out if possible.

I'm working on it. I will have to see if I can make something happen that weekend. We have been promising to take the kids to Disneyland this Fall...

Haha, hey, what can I say, I'm one lazy Head-Fier.

Lazy HeadFiers miss the good stuff.

Just send the money now so you don't have to worry about forgetting later. Consider this your proactive reminder, no charge for the service.

Good thing there is a dedicated Shuttle service to and from the Hotel and Airport.

I will be there.

Hunted Charlie, I would be more than happy to let you listen to a K-701, HD-650, M^3, a Zana Deux, and Eric Barbour's Brute Force (http://headwize.com/projects/showfil...arbour_prj.htm). I don't have anything else on your wish list, but I'm hoping you'll get to hear everything you want to.

I'll bring all the headphones:

Grado: RS-1, HP-2, HF-1
Sennheiser: HD-414, HD-600, HD-650
AKG: K-240DF, K-340, K-501, K-701, K-1000
Beyerdynamic: DT48 (x3), DT880 (2003)
Audio Technica: ATH-6
Sony: MDR-SA5000
Stax: Aperio Alpha

I don't think many people have heard a Stax Aperio Alpha or a Beyerdynamic DT48, so I want to put them on as many ears as possible.

I'll bring the M^3, Zana Deux and the (soon to be completed) Brute Force. Should finish off the casing over the long weekend and have it powdercoated next week. Assembly will be an evening or two and soldering will be a Saturday or Sunday. Might knock off another amp if I have the time.

No Orbe this time (probably for CanJam '09, though), but I'll bring the Marantz SA8001, Rega Planet (original), Scott 350B (all tube stereo FM receiver) and the Sony HD radio receiver.

Hmm...Considering it, but not sure what's going on that weekend for me, although I doubt anything'll come up.

A couple of questions though.

What's the policy on alcohol? Considering the mixed ages I'd understand completely if it wasn't allowed, but I figured I'd at least ask.

Also, what music will people be bringing along? To be honest, I'm actually more interested in rummaging through other collections of music and trying out some albums I'd otherwise never hear. If I come out with a dozen or two albums to pick up at Amoeba on the way back I'd be happy as can be, hehe. Definitely need some new genres to explore...

And considering that I'd be coming down from Lancaster, if anyone needs a ride along the way (14s->5s->405s) just let me know. I wouldn't mind going too far out of the way, especially if that helps to avoid some of areas with heavier traffic.

As far as gear goes, all I really have worth mentioning would be a pair of DT-880's that I picked up in '06 (I forget the exact year that version was released, but they were discontinued in '06) and an SR-71 amp. Although I've been considering setting up a home system...hmm...

.
I doubt there will be alcohol in the meet room maybe a couple of beers if a member brings them in. No underage drinking is permitted and is strongly discouraged. There is also a nice bar on the first level for those that want a drink. I expect we'll most likely head out for a pint somewhere after the event.

Music! You bring up a great point, I always discover a few new artists or for that matter a new genre at meets. When I walk up to a rig with a cd in it I always give it a spin before playing something I brought.

Folks this is going to be a great meet, with Justin coming you'll get a chance to hear the Blue Hawaii and with Craig from Eddie Current coming you'll get a listen to the Balancing Act. This meet will be one NOT to miss and a nice preview of the SoCal community prior to CanJam 09.

If you don't know about it already, check out Pandora.com You can start multiple radio stations based upon your favorite albums, songs, or artists. Then Pandora makes suggestions on additional music you might like that is similar. They also have "pre-set' radio stations, and you can tune into stations that others have created. I discovered some new favorite artists via this approach.

This will be a great opportunity to experience gear you would never have a chance to see and talk to the owners.

If you haven't done so already, please list the gear you will be bringing so that we can make suitable arrangements.
