HD650 Mods and Closed?

Hey everybody,

So I just listened to a pair of hd650s through a regular computer headphone output and I can say I am absolutely inlove with these. I mean I can only imagine what they sound like with a good amp. But anyway I want to take these with me to work and school but I need closed phones. Are there any closed headphones that come close to the hd650 sound? And are there any known mods for them? I know there are countless mods for grados but I've never really seen any hd650 mods with the exception of woodies. Thanks for any info.

Paul

Sennheiser HD580/600/650 MOD. I have that mod in my HD650's.

don't think that's exactly what he's looking for.... i think he wants to be able to mod them to become more closed and less open. could be wrong though.

Yeah, it's hard to improve perfection, lol...

You really don't see a lot of mods, besides APS's "defoaming" and recabling. The Headphile woodies are the only ones I know of, with the different options for venting available. I'm on the fence about wanting to do that to mine...I love them as-is, but I'm curious about making them "closeable"...but not nearly $400 worth of curious.

hmm so I guess no closed hd650's. Gotta love the sound though. Any impressions on the closed woodies from headphile?

I just posted a thread about that very thing...

Amen

I believe closing an HD650 would negatively impact the sound quality. Why mess with a well-engineered device?

as for closed hd650-like headphones... isn't the denon d2000 supposed to sound something like them? that's what i read, never heard them.

Hi jantze,

How is your HD650 sound after mod?

Thanks

Sorry, can't remember the details anymore. I did like the mod better then stock HD650's with my WA6.

It's not hard to do that mod, so try it out yourself. Some like it and some don't. I think it might be due the amps, dacs, IC's and personal preference.

btw, I have the "new" version of senns.

Jantze, I have the "new" Senns as well...what specifically do you like about the mod? Alex says it deepens the bass and adds some definition without any loss of anything else. What were your impressions of what it does to the sound?

You could literally make 'closed' hd650's. Hunt down a cheap set of hd265's and install a pair of hd650 drivers. If you need help tracking down the part numbers let me know. If there is wider interest I will post. I've put hd650 drivers in a set of hd535's and they sound great.
