Westone UM2 or UE Triple.fi 10? - Page 4

I can get the SF a good fit, and from the little experience with the triples, they seem harder to get and keep the right fit. they're a lot bigger than the super fi

Care to share what a 'prepped' silicon is, lewis? I'm curious...

Take a permeable one, the ones that have a very dull, textured appearance, and swab it down real good with the purest rubbing alcohol you can find. Then swab out the ol' ears real good with the same alcohol drying any excess on both items, the ears and silys, and once they set up in the ear, they will stick real good and stay put....unless you get into some strenuous physical type situation that causes sweat.

Try taking them out once they set up in the ear. They'll turn inside out before they break loose. But it has to be quality alcohol.

The Shure silicone softips work like that for me (and my UM2s) - a good cleaning for both tips & ears and they set up well and stay put trouble-free for as long as I care to wear them, usually 2-3 hours before an 'ear break'. And they last - I'm still rotating the original 5 pair I bought a couple years ago... Cheers.

For some reason, which has to do with the double lining of those Shure sleeves, I can't get a good isolation with them. They go in and feel really well sealed but I can hear external noises like they aren't even in. Someway or another the the inner lining, I suppose, crumples causing the sleeve to produce an open spot.

The only tip that really worked for me (SF5Pro) is the Shure Olives, kept the IEM in without it slipping out every few mins.

The ES2 cable helped greatly too.

I have owned both, and much prefer the UM2

It does sound like that - which would mean to me that you're using too large a tip perhaps, or pushing them too far in. I wear softips on both my IEMs but the fit is quite different - the Ety 4Ps take mediums and insert much deeper into the canal (I recently performed Red Shift's mod of adding ear clips to these, allowing me to remove the shirt clip and improving microphonics/mobility considerably). The UM2s take Large and have a much shallower insertion; push in too far and they will 'crumple' (they're designed so well they usually automatically nestle into the sweet spot), so you might try a smaller size, but S, M, & L don't always fit everybody's ears. Good luck.

I'll do that. Don't know why that hadn't dawned on me.

Just an update on the Shure sleeves situation, I did what you said , using the medium sleeves, and it does make all the difference in the world. They seem to be sealing well with great isolation. But having said that, with the way things go for me whenever I post a positive it turns negative. Whenever I post a negative it turns positive.

These, right now, are doing well. Lets just see how well they are doing in a couple days.
