iPod Classic (6G) output power?

Hi, I own an iPod Classic (sixth generation) or the new aluminium shelled ipod with the Cirrus Logic DAC.

What is the power output from the internal iPod amp?

I'm thinking of driving some full-size Audio-Tehnicas...possibly the A500/700/900 series models...and I need to know whether these can be driven by the iPod.

The impedance ratings are from 40 - 60 Ohmz

Thanks.

Cirrus < Wolfson DAC found on previous generation ipods and iPod touch too as well.

Note: poorer sounding based on the charts released when the ipod 6g was first launched..

I've listened to the 5.5G, it feels warmer but lacks the clarity of the 6G.

However, the 6G feels slightly hollow, cold and a bit too crisp.

It's nothing but your fantasies.

It's not worse, it's not better.
The iPhone has the Wolfson DAC, and the Classic has the new Cirrus DAC. Both sound very good from the LOD, but the sound characteristics are just different.
The Wolfson is warmer, where as the Cirrus is clearer.

Well, if the D2 is 37mw per channel, what is the mw per channel on the classic and touch respectively? Sound quality or signature is moot here. Only power rating pertaining to driving HP's IMO.

I still think both are putting out 30MW per channel. My understanding is nothing has changed in that department from older ipods

iPod Classic can drive my AD900s just fine. I haven't listened too much yet (still pretty new) and the bottom end does benefit from an amp from what I have heard so far, but the iPod can definitely drive them.

Just needed to be pointed out because OP believed that the Cirrus is inferior somehow.

I think callanish is right though that its 30 mW, hard to find newer specs. With the sensitivity ratings and impedance of the OP's headphones I think they'll be driven OK.

Mmm thanks. Shall be buying some Audio-technicas soon.

I'm hoping the Touch gets a 64gb boost so I can run back ta' get 1. And thanks for the mw ratings on the ipods guys!!! And thanks to the OP (1audioz) for starting this thread!!!
