hi. im looking into purchasing prolly the meta or mint(more likely the meta),for my HD580's, through JMT prolly next few paychecks after i finish paying off some other audio equipment. Im curious. Which commercial amp would u compare the Meta to. Im not talking about price wise because obviously DYI amps are obviously less compared to commercial amps, but performance wise and sound wise..

thanks in advance

Hey,

Probably it ranks among 2~3 hundred dollar amps. That is if you fill the darn board with all the expensive stuff. Fill it with crap and you get crap. It will rank above RA-1 given decent building conditions.

In my opinion, META board has too many compromises incorporated to rank among 500~700 USD amps. But then if you build your own board with less compromises, you can make it rank around here. (If you make me do the building, I will charge you 500~700 USD depending on my mood.

P.S. I call the 200~300 USD range almost Hi-Fi, 500~700 USD range Hi-Fi. And 800~few thousand USD ultra Hi-Fi. This only applies to commercial amps.
