Yep, I will be comparing to the DV 336SE. Not much point to compare to the DV 337, which is in a different class.

Well...Fang was nice enough to send me a EF1 for review. At first i thought the sound was a tad stale. Missed some bottem end or some soundstage.

After talking with Fang, he sent me another tube (RCA Clear Top) This did give it a richer more bodied sound. However, its still seems that its missing something. It pushes grado's fine...however it seems just get by with my 650s. I wouldnt call it bad, but i think the 650s are wanting more power. I will have to test a pair of 580s or 600s this weekend with the EF1 in Tampa.

However, im rather impressed with the sound that this little guy puts out. Its got a nice clear sound...highs are nice and crisp, but not to over the top. It looks great too, nice clear top to see the insides. Also nice blue light that shines through.

I would like to see a few improvements.

1- better volume pot
2- Gain switch
3- PSU capable of using a aftermarket power cord
4- Dual inputs

I think it needs alot of break in time or something...will be giving it a good listen before i pack it for the trip this weekend.

So more info and thoughts to come (also pics)

I looking for the new tube ampfilier for MS-Pro. Do you think guys that EF1 is a right choice for Grado-synergy? Head-Direct offer 2 version 220v and 110v, what does it mean? And they offer for 299$ on sale From Nov 22 to Nov 30, it is really nice price.

I agree, the $299 is an steal.

HighLife, I agree that the volume pot should be a bit better. But at $299 I can more than live with it. :-)

I just got this a couple of days ago to pair with my HD600. Sounds awesome. Really pushes a lot of good sound out of the headphones. I can't compare these to anything else because the HD600 and the EF1 are my first pair of high quality headphones and amp. Mine were only shipped with one tube, which I assume is the RCA one. What are some other good tubes to test with these and what are their effects on the sound?

Also, how does the sound compare to an all tube amp with the HD600?

Hey all! I just scored one myself, and it's my first desktop amp so I can't compare it to anything but my iBasso D2 Boa, which it certainly whips the pants off, in terms of SQ and driving power. It's really opened up my MS2i!

However, my amp is giving off a VERY audible hum, even at low levels. I'm living in Japan (100v) and ordered the 110v edition, which Fang assures me should work fine, but I'm wondering if that hum might be to do with the power difference. I sent a message to Fang about it, but I thought I'd check here to see if anyone else had an idea of what the problem might be.

Well, if it's not a ground loop, it's probably the tube. Do you have another 12AU7 you can try?

The amp came with two 12AU7 - the cleartop NOS one and a silver-topped one. Both are giving off the hum.

EDIT:

Fang has offered to replace it. Crisis averted!

I am fresh owner . I have 220v, live in the europe, power supply has different conector for the plug I have to change the cable. So I dont know how EF1 play but looks very nice, I will use it provisionally like decoration in shelf
I have one rebuck, my EF1 is quite scrathy for my taste, it had be completely the new...

It's really nice sounding amp. I can only recomend EF1, quality for this value and possibility change opamps and tubes, I'm very happy.
