Denon AH-C551K or the V-Moda Vibes?

One of my friends is looking for an upgrade to his Sennheiser CX300 and he only can spend 80 bucks. The Denon's are 60 dollars on amazon and the V-Modas are 70, also on amazon. If you have any better suggestions, please share.

Of those, the consensus seems to be the 551s, especially at the price. They usually retail for $99. I just got them myself, from recommendations around here and I'm very happy even after about 12 hrs burn in. You can pretty some pretty good buds/canalphones/IEMs for $80. It just depends on what he listens to. The ER-6i are a favourite here, but they're bass weak (and since he/she's moving on from CX300...).

The Denon c551's by a mile. It's no contest really. Far better in every way.

If it helps... He listens to rap, pop rock, rock.. Mostly bassy stuff.. So any of the Shures or Er6i is out of the question. He has a classic Ipod Video. No amping.

Denon c551s. No question!

In that case, C551s it is. Can't think of anything else, really. RE2s are almost within budget...if $20 more is "almost." But for the money, it's the 551s. I'm not enjoying the stock tips much, though. So he might want to use the rest of his budget to get Comply tips.

Not only are the Denon AH-C551 way better sounding, V-Moda are (or at least used to be) plagued by bad build quality. Mine only last a couple of months, and I've come across lots of people who've said the same thing (mainly on Amazon UK).
