AD2000X pads seam ticker but puting AD2000X pads on AD2000 should alter the sound . I will think twice before but if AD2000X sound exactly as AD2000 and no touching driver issue , i will sure be tempted .

Putting thicker pads on the AD2000 really expanded the sound and made them a lot more comfortable. I think a lot of pads could potentially fit on them.

I myself don't feel like I had any success making the pads on the AD2000 thicker. I tried phat padding them using various materials, but it always seemed to take away the bass and thin things out. For fun, I also tried listening to them with some big leather J$ Beyer pads (they don't actually fit the AD2000 being too small, but I let the clamp of the headphones hold them in place). Seemed to make the sound V-shaped and take away all the beautiful AD2000 mids.

ATH-AD2000X is coming out with new pads (thicker ones). I think one could try these new pads on the AD2000.

Is this an established fact, or are we just saying off of the pictures? Oh well, sadly I don't have the AD2000 anymore. frown.gif

Of course, I was just wondering if somebody actually had already or not.

Has anyone tried AD2K on RSA Darkstar amp before?

I will leave the AD2000X until next year, I have got to slow down on purchasing "gears" since I have already spent over 6K just over the last 4 months.

Yea, I dont know why, but the sound out of DS was harsh, recessed mids, too much treble to the point of annoying.
When it is paired with my Cowon D2, the mids was really nice, more engaging than my LCD2.
Anyone has tried with other high, overpowering amp before? wondering if all got similar experience, or is it just DS signature? or I listened to a bad amp.

DarkStar is a bad match for ATH, Denon or Grado. Everytime I plug them into DarkStar, the constant hiss on background is always appear even in low gain.

As matter of sound, DarkStar is really transparant to your DAC, and also reveal your music recording. When I tried some ATHs with DS, I don't think it's sound too bright nor recessed mids, DAC that I used are Fostex HP-P1, Kingrex, and Lavry DA10.

Sounds rather overkill, haha.

So I think really DS is just suitable for Orthos, I think.
It also sounds not really good with HD700 and HD800.
I dont remember what DAC the store is using, but they use to use not-so-bad DAC like Naim or Wadia. This time I didnt pay attention to the DAC.
