I use the AD2k for electronica. It has plenty of bass and top end sparkle for me. I know you want more because you are a greedy piggy . You could always sell the D7100 if you don't like it...


Good question. Unlike every other phone, these just don't go DOWN. Gah.

AccessoryJack had them for a little over $600, but no more it seems. The only place I can see them new at the moment is Audiocubes, which is much more expensive...

 

FS forums is probably the best if you can find them.

Luckily for me, we have a whole bunch of grey importers who have them for ~559AUD plus shipping. That's how I picked up my spare.

The AD2000 isn't going anywhere. But I am considering letting the W5000 go in favor of a D7000 or D7100. Well, I guess I could keep the W5000 too, but I would rather not keep adding more headphones without getting rid of others. :P

Stores that don't source the product through local channels/distributors but instead, import them from a foreign distributor.

It may not be a big deal in the USA but in the rest of the world, things aren't always priced fairly. Take a Canon 5D Mark III. You can buy it locally for 4000AUD. You can go through a store like DigitalRev which offers local warranty BUT the goods come from Hong Kong. In exchange, you only pay 3100AUD. The AD2000 used to retail in Australia for 999AUD.

I've been listening to my set recently and felt like posting some albums that the AD2K is simply amazing on due to either its impulse response or just its overall "accelerator"-style sound. Because the AD2K is definitely a sonic accelerator! This headphone deserves to play fast music!

^^^  I've read before where you said the AD2K does not benefit from a balanced cable.  I want to make sure it doesn't necessarily hurt them either.  My amps all have only balanced outputs except the Burson.  I may not benefit from a are cable but does it hurt it's sonic signature?

I thought the sound was completely unaffected by a re-cable.

 

Just be careful to not overdrive the AD2K, especially on a B22 - i.e., don't turn up the volume with the headphones off your head.

After owning these for a little while, I guess it's time I post in here. These are the first time I've owned higher end ATs.

I mean, really, what a wonderful pair of headphones. I even purchased a KICAS caliente to match with them. Unfortunately, I purchased most of my amps when my headphone collection was high impedance hard to drive cans. I needed a better match. 

 

I've grown pretty fond of the style. With the Kicas they are very 'upfront' and aggressive, like grados, but so much clearer and smoother overall. I slapped a pair of Hifiman HE-6 pads on them, and I think they opened up very well. Just the right amount of 'cozy' upfront sound and distance to appreciate the sound. I had a hard time adjusting the to clamping force as well. It's a very strange sensation. It's a tight clamp, but it's such a weak force. It's a very snug fit and they don't slide at all. After awhile I forget they are there. 

 

I've examined my pretty close. The cable has 4 wires going down, so balancing would be very easy. The build quality on the wire is very impressive. You can see it's pretty quality wire going into the cups. Well done!

 I think the W5000 and D7000 have very different sound signatures. Steer clear of the D7100. A lot of the people raving about that headphone are very inexperienced users who have a hard time defending it.
