The Objectivist Audio Forum: Post #4 : Choose Our Name - Page 3

"Sound Science" and "Measured Response" are both brilliant and clever puns. Hats off to those who came up with these names, or other suggestions that lead the way.

So much better than my idea.

I agree that my proposed scope is too limited and if folks want to discuss engineering test bench measurements, or the scientific method here, that's great.

Sound Science, that's it! No wait, Measured Response. Ah, it's like picking HPs.

Nothing in particular. Just another way of looking at things..... mild, not provocative, no edge to it, just a different way to view some of the stuff that's discussed in the other forums....

What seems best to me is to have a "Cables/Tweaks/Etc. Listening Impressions Forum." If people want to ask for a recommendation, post a review, compare products, they can do it there.

The other forum should be the "Cables/Tweaks/Etc. Discussion Forum." That's where you would post a "do cables make any difference?" type of thread.

I don't think those would unfairly label either side and avoids judgment of either.
Perfect. Basically very similar to my original suggestion about how these threads should work.

Although I like "Sound Science" too, the only problem I see with using "Science" in our name is that it could tend to diminish the validity of the other forums.

A name like "Sound Science" might imply that our views are cutting edge facts and the rest of the forums are full of people spouting unscientific, baseless, hot air and lead to arguments about whose opinion is scientific and whose is not.

There is no doubt our forum will contain its share of new, different, maverick, novel, and (as yet) unproven ideas and concepts, so maybe we shouldn't use the "science" word in our title, (although there's no reason it can't be part of the description).

Just my 2 cents.

Okay, how about we go for Sound Science--if it causes a stink down the road, we'll deal with it then.

I like it, too, for whatever that's worth.

I like "Sound Science." I've never thought of skeptics as especially playful -- furrowed, maybe, or animated, or indignant, or even po-faced. But playful? Uh uh. Satyrs, yes. Skeptics, no. I look forward to dipping into this new forum. Good luck with it.
