Bent cantilever on DL-103

So the needle (or whatever its called) on my turntable got bent last night. Woke up this morning, and it was bent. Two people used it while I was asleep, and neither knows how it was bent, so they are going to split the cost. So anyway, I did a bunch of google searches and couldn't find anything in the way of a replacement to buy, or a place to send it to. I'll call Denon tomorrow, but I was was looking to get a heads up on what I can expect as far as my options are concerned. Any idea how much this is going to cost? Bent pretty good, but not broken, DL-103.

I would assume the cost will be equal to that of a new DL-103.

Not really sure why that is anything to smile about. Dick.

Sorry to hear about the damage. I've seen the DL-103 going around $160-$170. New parts plus the labor could be more than that. If you want to offset the cost of a new one, you might be able to get a few dollars for it on eBay or Audiogon. Some hobbyist might take a chance at a homemade repair or need the parts.

Here's Denon's US service center contact info:

Denon USA | SERVICE & PARTS NETWORK

Might be worth contacting them to get the price of repair.

Wow, someone's on edge today! You should smile because you're not paying for it, if for no other reason!

Sorry, that's not the way I see it. I'm not going to smile at the misfortune of others, especially my friends. Pretty dick thing to smile about in my opinion.

And thanks for the info, I was planning on contacting Denon today now that it is no longer the weekend.

The whole thing is annoying too, because I know my friends were careless because it wasn't their stuff to worry about, so they didn't put any thought into the way they handled it. This frustrates me because I'd like to allow them to use my things, and I think they are fully capable... but this was literally the first time I allowed others to touch my TT and bam $170 cartridge gets ruined.

With all due respect, you're on the internet. If someone adding a smiley face after a comment like that offends you, I hope you never visit any other website, ever.

That is a cop out. Just because the internet is full of ******** doesn't mean their behavior should be accepted, especially in a thread I started.

I frequent fark.com, so I'm not pretending I have delicate sensibilities. Putting a smiley at the end of the sentence was unnecessary, and entirely negative. If we let smarmy little bastards have free reign on the internet, it won't be useful anymore.

Oh, I see. I'm afraid I missed the "This is a Dihnekis mandated no-sarcasm zone" banner at the top of the thread.

In any case, my point was that you seem to be too easily offended, not that you're too intolerant of offense. On top of that, your subsequent posts are much more snide and rude than the initial post you found offensive.

See the problem with that is that I'm not trying to remove his post, or try to make him take it back.

I'm just letting him know that he was being quite prickish by smiling about someone having to drop $170 vs a potentially cheaper replacement option. Read through my comments. I'm not being rude, I'm not being snide. I'm letting another user know that the manner in which he communicated with me was not respectful, and here you come in here telling me I need to get off the internet. Who the **** are you?

Hi Dihnekis: Your best bet is to send your cartridge to soundsmith over at sound-smith.com in the USA for a retip. He offers several grades of stylii. All of them will be better than the stock conical stylus that came on your Denon. The more you spend, the better it will sound. He has a very nice website to study and if you want more information, you can do a soundsmith search at the vinyl asylum. The only downside beyond the cost will be the wait for the turnaround so you should consider a new backup cartridge while you wait. I have not actually used his service myself but his reputation is extraordinary.

An unbiased perspective letting you know that you certainly are being those things, and that you had no reason to be angered in the first place.

In any case, carry on. By this time my point has either sunk in or it won't ever sink in.
