Turntable Channel Balance Issue

Thread Starter
I've got a Linn Axis with a Linn Basic Plus arm and a Rega Elys cartridge. I've noticed for a while that everything seemed to be shifted to the left when listening to records as compared to CDs. I initially put this down to my head tricking me but recently whilst recording on to a PC I noticed the left channel is indeed consistently louder than the right on all recordings. I've used two different phono stages and it happens with both so I'm ruling that out. I'm aware the most likely culprit is the cartridge but this has been fitted by a Linn dealer and then by myself with no change.

Other than this, I can hear no other problems. I was wondering if it possibly could be the arm? It is getting on in years and I got it 2nd hand off an aunt who didn't look after it particularly well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it isn't the preamp, odds are it is the cartridge. If it was the arm, it would probably be intermittent or one channel totally dead. Can you call the dealer who set it up and ask him to take a look at it?

See ya
Steve
