Triple-fi for rock, but for a laptop annd a movie...?

As I understand as a rock (nirvana, aerosmith, SR-71, etc) & modern punk/electronic-rock (Billy Talent/Panic in the Disco), and some heavy metal fan, of what I have read the sound signature of the triple-fi seems it would better suit me than the shure 530; with my ipod.

But what about for a movie? or gaming? with a laptop.

Actually, I'd say the opposite is true. If you are going unamped right to an Ipod, with ROCK music, SE530's are the better choice.

But ironically, I think I would prefer Triple Fi's for movie and gaming. Triple Fi's are more airy and euphoric. Very good and reproducing many layers of sound.

Oh nice response.
How important is an amp? The three tweeter earphones really need that extra power to function properly?

I'm guessing unamped SE530's would be better for vocals and bass guitar? in rock.

X2 on Triples for movie listening. I sometimes struggle to pick up English accents in movies from my TV, but with the trips, off my laptop with crappy onboard sound, voice is rendered with great clarity even at low volumes. Even whispers are sharply audible.

I regularly use my Trips for watching movies off my laptop and even in flights the quality of sound reproduction and isolation is outstanding.

Infoseeker : re your question about amping - both 'phones are efficient enough to run well and sound great without amping. Amping will give you an incremental sound benefit, but like me, you could easily live with a decision to not amp. Especially if you have a source with good synergy.

EQing does benefit the sound. And of course, experimenting with tips can also modify the SQ.

Let's just say if you tend to listen rather loudly I find the Triples a little challengend unamped. The SE530's are just more efficient and vocals are better since SE530 has the better midrange. Bass guitar excellent on both. I like drums better on SE530 (better slam). My opinions of course.
