The Great Poll: Bach / Mozart / Beethoven (Cast Your Vote)

This is actually probably the dumbest poll I've ever made. Mainly because when comparing such infinite greatness its unfair to evaluate the art in a contest-like way. But this is supposed to fun. So let's have some........we all know that (at least in the Western Hemisphere) the three greatest composers of music history are considered to be Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. Not one of those three are my absolute favorite (I'm sure you guessed Mahler is my fave) but I want to see who gets the most votes on head-fi since we are very much discriminative listeners.

You can only vote for one composer, which I know is an incredibly difficult task when evaluating such absolute brilliance....please forgive me

Just happen to be listening to Bach right now (Suite No.1, Gardiner), so that's how I voted. As good a basis for voting on this topic as any.

I'm a huge Wagner fan, so I'll go with the granddaddy of all the Romantics, LVB.

Now that's a tough one!! All the others were easy for me.

You're not clear what we are supposed to vote for. If the question is "which one doesn't belong", it's clearly the massively overrated Mozart who pesters our ears with his hack work, the 18th century equivalent of muzak. Commercially very successful, but ultimately effete and superficial with few exceptions.

Beethoven's 5th and 9th have always been my favorite classical pieces.

I'm just assuming you'll vote for your favorite of the three. And I'm assuming for you, thats not Mozart

While tempted out of reaction to vote for Mozart (who clearly belongs somewhere in the top 5 if not the top 3 - although I am unsure who I would displace him with - maybe Monteverdi or Haydn), Bach is my cliched choice, simply because I do listen to him more than anyone else.

Mozart is my favorite!

Clearly Bach.

Bach has the strongest collection, but Beethoven's Seventh is my overall favorite. Vote still goes to Bach.

Beethoven; Mozart's just an overrated pansy.

Slight exaggeration.

My sentiments exactly. I enjoy Bach and Beethoven fairly equally. Probably shows my lack of taste, but I've never enjoyed Mozart. My vote goes to Bach

Bach. Beethoven feels too airy and pompous, Mozart too much like mood music--distracting, but I can't get into it. I'm almost always up for anything of Bach's, played any which way.
