When I listened to the sound for the 1st time, I was hit by it. I was punched by the not-punchy-bass. I was hoping it would offer much better bass response than SE315.. equals to Klipsch Image...

SP Wild, what you're writing about the K1000 is probably the wrongest crap I have ever read in this forum. I owned the HD595 for a year and I spent sever hours in two rigs with the K1000 - two different sounding pieces. And saying it's as resolving as HD595 is pure B/S. The K1000 is more resolving than the K701 for sure. A properly amped K1000 is around half a class above any todays flagship I know in terms of realism. The instruments and performers materialize on them more than on the PS1000, E9, GS1000 and several other similarily priced headphones. Not to mention mid-class like the HD600. However I listened to the K1000 once from the Accuphase class A integrated amplifier speaker outputs paired with the two block Accuphase digital source and another time from a hybrid power amplifier preceded with a dual mono tube preamplifier with a separate dual mono PSU. The only headphones I heard equally resolving were Sennheiser HE90 and I believe the Sony Qualia or R10 are able to show as much in this regard.

OK, now some of the stuff I speak of may be cringeworthy
, but is it that hard to believe on an economical, marketing, managerial, technical and pyschological basis that I might just have a point this time around? I don't think my hearing is that defective from the average Joe Blow.
You might liken the sound of a 500 dollar superseded flagship to a 10,000 yet to be superseded flagship...and I have no reason to question your tastes. Why am I so harshly criticised for posting my personal, subjective experiences?
So far I've been accused of taking drugs, writing crap and making up nonsense. Why are you guys so insensitive? I have feelings too you know.

Don't take it personal, Sam.
We all hear differently.
One man's riches is another man's rubbish and vice versa.
We have the "For Sale" forums replete with people selling gear for money to buy other gear which some of us just shake or heads in wonder. e.g.
For Sale HD800. Reason for sale: I like my Fostex TP50's better. etc etc. ad hoc, ad infinitum, ad nauseum......

SP Wild, let's transform your experiences into blaming the amplifier for the sonic results or into the fact the K1000 were defective. ;) Saying that the AKG made sonic progress with the K701 model is a massive disinformation. As well as judging the HD650 as sounding natural. ;)

Sorry, no just to clarify, the K1000s were not defective...my amp is crap. That's the deal...I sacrifice the credibility of my amplifiers to keep the peace.

A Pioneer Monitor 10R without amplification sounds like the music is coming in through a tiny hole... It needs power.
SP Wild, what is your experience with integrated amplifiers? My AU-217 I - for my ears - unleashed the sub bass of the K240 DF which I find very pleasing. Or is it better to use a power amplifier connected to a preamplifier? Such combinations are not too expensive if you know where to look.

I have a Gennari 2X50 watt KT88 integrated amplifier, a Cayin HA-1A 2X2.2 watt ultralinear or 2X1.2watt SET flea watt integrated. But for both AKGs K701 and K1000...paired with the 2X5 watt Ming Da MC84 gave me the most delicious, and luscious midrange.

If you read the beginning of this thread, then the last few pages, it seems to have considerably diverged from its original purpose and has just degenerated to a listing of which headphones people think is the worst, for which there are other threads, so I'm considering this one as having run its course.
