Beautiful bud.  That really jumps out at you!

Now.............the cups do not have the damping?  You might consider doing it.  I left mine without it for a few months after I got them back from Martin - they NEED it in my opinion.

**** I don't know what to do. These are hard to find and I found someone selling them for what I think is a good price. They're pretty good condition being sold for $250-300. I wanted these before but I couldn't find a pair for a reasonable price so I opted for the dt770 as an alternative which I do like. But now I feel like I should take advantage of this and grab them to either add to my beyers or replace em. Is this headphone a good buy still or have other alternatives made them defunct?

Questions:

  • how is the comfort? I have a small head and wear glasses. The clamping force has to exist, and pads must be soft for me to get a good seal. I tried some newer Denons at Best Buy and they were way too big and loose for my head.  COMFORT IS EXCELLENT.  YOU CAN ADD A HD650 HEADBAND PAD IF YOU LIKE (I HAVE THEM ON BOTH MY DENON'S) TO MAKE THEM REALLY REALLY DISAPPEAR.

  • How is the sibilance? This is my main issue with the dt770. I can eq down yes but having smooth treble would be a plus.  NO COMMENT AS I DON'T HEAR SIBILANCE ON MINE.

  • how easy is it to buy NEW replacement pads? Or am I gonna have to rely on the used ones?  YOU CAN BUY EITHER ALPHA PADS OR DENON KNOCK-OFFS FROM EBAY.

Anything else I should know before I jump on this?  DO IT.  GREAT HEADPHONE.

Thanks

Hi thanks for the response. Have you heard the dt770 can you give a quick comparison? Most notably the bass and sounstage.

I like the bass on my JH-16, it is very tight and punchy...there are times I wish it was a tad more "loose" if you know what I mean..For now I'm enjoying the extra oomph of the D2000 deep cups lol :D

I owned the Dt770 (32 ohm AE version) for a while. Liked them a lot but no way as good as my Denons. Soundstage is way better with the Denons by design and the bass on a Denon is the best.

you can use alpha pads instead, which are much better imho

i have the dt 770 (250 ohm) and like oregonian said, theres really no comparison. the denons win. i too had trouble with the beyers treble and i too eqd it down significantly, i feel no need to eq the denon treble. the bass is about equal for quantity, the denons have abit more of a mid bass "kick" so to speak, but for quality the denons win - extension, impact, rumble...

Denon D2000 much better than the DT770 imho.  Treble is kind of peaky on the 770, Denon bass better texture, speed, impact, etc.  Dt770 can be had pretty cheap these days though..

I have the 600 ohm DT770 Premium and I actually like it better than my D2K. It's much more balanced and the mids destroy the D2K's. I like a bright headphone, so the treble of the Beyers don't bother me.

What is a great price for a d2000? 275 a steal or nah? I wanna be able to resell and get my money back if I realize I don't need it a month down the road.

If you can find one under $250 I'd consider it a steal...I got my stock D2000 with V-MOTA carrying case for $225 shipped on ebay a couple months ago..

I've tried D600 and i find that D600 isn't bad as people says, it still maintain the signature of D2000, didn't tried with dac and amplifiers though, tested that in a shop

Comfort wise, the border need to be thin(the border holds on your ear) or it might be not comfortable for long use

For the pads, replacement pads are quite expensive, but the stock one is quite durable imo.

Do you guys think of D2000/D5000/D7000 having collectors value ATM, or do we have to wait a while for that to happen?

At present time it probably should but prices seem to be holding stable at around $300ish for the D2000. For a Denon fanboy (me) they are collection worthy.

So what do you guys think a woodied/recabled/dampened D2k is worth (Martin Custom cups)? I really want to have Martin revamp my D2k, but it's a good amount of money! Its that or save a bit and get the Sig DJ/Pro (@~$899 it looks like).
