I'm glad I have my pair of Denon D2000s with custom lambskin earpads (J$). And a D4 Mamba.

Sucks though...

As soon as I saw the general reaction to the new "Music Maniac" line, I rushed over to Amazon and grabbed one of the last in stock D5000's. It is a shame though, such a well-loved series discontinued with no immediate/available successor. The Fostex TH600/900 definitely have my attention too though.

So happy. Decided I wanted to buy the Denon D2000 a few days ago. online prices were looking at around £250, but after typing in the headphones into google, it stated that my local HMV store had them in.

I went over this morning and they had only one left on the shelf at only £150. It would have been rude to leave without them, so I bought them gs1000.gif

How is the bass on the AH-D600s ?

Which ultrasone has the closest signature to the Denon x000 series?

Asking because I saw people describing the open ultrasones as a bit more warm then the rest, and that's one of the major differences between Denon and Ultrasone imo. Denon's are more warm and less metallic sounding than some ultrasones namely the HFI580 or PRO900 etc.

Who has experience of both brands?

These are not my finding at all.  However, there are differences in the two families.  Both families IMO provide deep bass. The difference in bass IMO is that Denons provide better sub bass while Ultrasons provide better mid bass.

My comparisons are with:

Denon D7000 and D5000

Ultrasone Edition 8 and Pro 900

How would you compare the mids and highs of the Denon's and the PRO900. I'm pretty sure the edition line and signature line are NOT in my budget, and don't tempt me.

Oh yeah that's where they get good I much preferre the Ed8s over the Pro 900s anyday.  If it wasn't for the strange fit of the Ed8. I'll take them over the D7000 as well.  but the D7000s are just so comfy.  Now the highs on the Pro 900s can be a little hot compared to the denons.  So yes your right in that the denons can be seen as warmer.

If you can find a pair of Denons either the D7000 or the D5000 heck even the D2000 I say get them as fast as you can.

I sold my HFI580 to get a D2000, and now considering to sell my D2000; wondering which is my next step.

Or spend 6~12 months without a bassy headphone and get a d7000/sig pro/pro 900 (doubt i will like its highs)/lcd2/what else

If you feel like importing, the D5k is sold in Japan under a different model name by Fostex.  It's in their catalog.  So technically the D5k is actually not discontinued from manufacture, only for export.  Maybe we can setup Currawong as an exporter bigsmile_face.gif

Also the Denons will feel like they're cutting straight into your brain 30% less than the Ultrasones.... evil_smiley.gif
