Still can't find the velour pads. Can someone help me out here?
thanks...
post #2254 of 26938/7/12 at 4:14amI bought the FA003 velour pads from Frogbeats. They didn't have them listed on their site but I emailed them and they had one extra pair. Also gd-audiobase and treoo.com might have them since they are both Fischer dealers.
They were tough to find when I bought them that's for sure. Good luck all.post #2255 of 26938/7/12 at 4:23amQuote:
I haven't noticed any treble spikes or sibilance while using the velours. I do however have to turn up the volume of the music just a tad with the velours. I assume this is because my ears are further away from the drivers.post #2256 of 26938/7/12 at 7:28pm- Deathdeisel

Hmm all these pad changes gives me a thought. Because almost all headphones (besides summit fi, idk about them) benefit from angled pads.
Being that the velours and the hm5 pads aren't angled, I wonder if someone would make an angled spacer of high quality materials that only increase the distance between the driver and the ear, while angling the pads. It would have to be either wood or aluminum I would think.
Any ideas guys? Or thoughts and opinions?
Whomever makes these could also appeal to the guys who open their Denons for the open sound by adding venting holes into them.post #2257 of 26938/8/12 at 1:30pm- Deathdeisel

With the revision they are the same. The early revision has the hard plastic tabs and will not fit.
post #2259 of 26938/8/12 at 5:43pmJust a little update on my earpad rotation saga. After more listening, I started hearing some flaws with the velours again. One, it seems that due to the deep, flat shape of the velour pads the imaging of the D5000 suffers. I can hear it on songs when the sound pans from left to right. With the velours, it seems that the panning is a bit muddy and indistinct.
The HM5 leathers handle this better due to their softness. They squish a bit when worn. So, the music is closer to my ears, which does seem to help with this. I now see why the stock pads are angled and somewhat shallow.
From going back and for the between the pads I would rate the sound quality like this - stock > HM5 Leathers > FA003 Velours
The stock pads and the HM5 leather pads are pretty close as far as sound quality. The velours are very comfortable, but they change the sound signature a bit too much. It's almost like they take some of the dynamics from the music. I don't know if this Is from the depth or the velour fabric.
So, in contradiction to one of my earlier posts I am now back to using the stock pads for a bit. Right now, they are giving me the best sound. Of course, that may change... Again.post #2260 of 26938/8/12 at 9:51pm- mrAdrian

Hey since you have the velours, try do the open back mod, temporarily. See if you like this config: Denon without cups on + velour pads
post #2261 of 26938/11/12 at 7:05pmI have a pair of used Denon D5000 headphones. How can I tell if it does or does not have Markl mods (or any other mods, for that matter)? I tried opening the cups, but they wouldn't come off.
post #2262 of 26938/11/12 at 7:06pmQuote:did you unscrew the cups? There is 3 screws under the earpads (twist the earpads and they should come off)
post #2263 of 26938/14/12 at 4:54pmQuote:So I twist the earpads off, unscrew the cups, and then check to see if there are modifications?

I recently picked up a pair of Beyer DT990's (600ohm) and it's been at least a year since I owned my D2000's, and the Beyers make me miss them lol. I wish I had the D2K's to compare with these to see what i'm missing. I remember the bass being quite nice, but of course these are open phones too.
