Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Appreciation Thread! - Page 2

The D5000's are the best under $1000 phones I've heard. The modded phones are even better. With good vinyl playback they sound stunning.

You could sell both your phones and easily afford it...

lol yeah I know. But the hard part is getting the D5000s for a decent price nowadays. And the harder part is convincing the wife that I'm about to purchase a set of $400+ headphones. I even have trouble convincing myself sometimes. That's why when everyone is introduced to this great community they are told to stay far away!

With each headphone purchase I say to my wife, "this is the last one" and I've upgraded 4 times so far. But then again I can always sell my PS3 or laptop

From what I've read, the MarkL modded D2000 sounds just as good as a D5000, I'm not sure if I'm ready to put in that extra $$ for the wood. :-) BTW I was lucky enough to find a D5000 stock wire that I'll be using to rewire my D2000!(Lucky since my WTB thread was only a few days old!)

How would you rate the comfort on the D2000? What is the clamping force like?

I love my D5000's. I put them up for sale not long ago due to money troubles but I had to take them down, I couldn't stand to do it so I sold a bunch of other stuff instead.

I'm currently on the look out for a good amp for them although I must be honest, I really like how they sound straight out of my powerbook.

Most comfortable I have ever owned.

Comfort is the best out of many phones I've tried: AKG K81DJ, Equation Audio RP-21, M-Audio Q40, Like-new HD-650s, Sony MDR-7506.
Clamping force? What clamping force? There is none.

Comfort: 11/10 - The most comfortable headphones ever made.

Clamping force: - None!

I agree! The headband is nicely wrapped in soft leather and I don't even notice it resting on my head. The earpads are very soft and plush. There is no clamping force, but the headphones stay on nicely and are very comfortable. I can wear this all day and won't feel any discomfort. The headband and the comfort on my SR60 just can't compare!

Mstorie,

Is the difference that you heard between the D5000 and D2000 like night and day, or is ignorance bliss here? If I heard the D5000 would I be able to easily tell that it's better than the D2000? What if I markl modded the D2000s?

The difference between the markl D5000's and my stock D2000's, is slim, and not worth the money to me, because I don't need a woody. There are very small differences, but again not large enough to compensate for the price.

I sent my D2000's to be markl modded today.

I just got my markl'd d2000 today, and it is, for lack of a better work, sick. It's definitely more forward and involving compared to my beloved hd650, but it still manages to never be fatiguing. While they already sound great, I was wondering what upgraded cable (if any) have you guys paired up with your d2000/5000 to get that last bit of awesomeness out of them? I plan on balancing them at some point and want to get an idea of where I should go with this...

stock D5000s were wonderful but MD5000s are just a notch above every other headphone I've ever heard. A bit of a weight increase after the modding though. For such a thin piece of stickytack, the dynamat really pulls the cups downward. not a huge sacrifice to get a sound thats THAT much better.
