Portable amp for DT880

Hi.
Any suggestions for a portable amp (to use with iPod classic) for the DT880? Please note that I'm in Australia and not all brands might be available.
A couple of the available ones are the Meier 2move and the Minibox-e.
Cheers

I doubt any portable amp will really be able to drive the DT880s properly. They're real finicky about amplification.

Maybe if you DIYed a hot-rodded portable PIMETA running off 18V (2x 9V batteries)... that might work well.

SO which results would I get if I try to use the DT880 (have not bought them yet) without and amp with the iPod?

IMHO 2Move in high current and high gain have a nice sinergy with DT880 ver 2003 and there's a huge different in SQ when play direct from ipod or with using LOD and 2Move..

The iPod will laugh at you if you plug a 250 Ohm DT-880 into it...well at full volume it will be listenable but not very loud with a thin sound. The 250 Ohm DT-880 seems to be oddly difficult to drive comparing it to HD 650 which is 300 Ohms for instance.

So, any suggestions for an amp? If portable is not possible which others I should consider? Sorry but this "amp thing" is brand new territory for me so any help is greatly appreciated.

I've only tried my DT-880 with the portable amps that I've owned and not all of them worked.

The amps that did power them properly IMO(for a portable amp) were the HeadRoom Micro amp, Meier Porta Corda , HeadAmp AE-2 and Pico.

There's no secret that 880 have at least 2db lower sensivity, so there's no wonder that it harder to drive. Also, there's no portable amp to drive 880 completely.

dt880 and dt990 250ohm sounded good with meier headsix and headamp pico. not so good with ibasso boa and go-vibe v6.

Do you use your DT880 at home only?? What's your budget?

I'm also looking to pick up a DT880 05' from the for sale section. I only have my minibox e+ right now but i've been looking at the little dot mkII. Seems the best bang for the buck but the mkIII is tempting as well if I could only stretch the budget some more.

Mainly at home but I wouldn't mind being able to take them with on holiday and use them with my ipod, hence for the question about a portable amp. If that's not possible I'd like something that I can use both with the pc and the hi-fi.
As as budget max $400. Would it it be worth considering the option of the DT880 at 32ohm or the sound is not as good?

Can a Headamp Pico drive a 600 ohm DT880 properly? As I've read that version has better bass and I would use it for movies so that is rather important (and I don't care that in a shop the 250 ohm version can be had for significantly less money if this combination works).

Thanks for the help

I have 250 Ohm Pro 880's, and 600 Ohm Consumer 880's. Don't have a Pico, but I have a Predator, and an iQube. Both amps drive both HPs just fine.

The 600 Ohm 880 beats the 250 Ohm 880 in more ways than bass. Smoother freq response, better SQ all around.

Be sure to get your 600 Ohm 880's directly from beyer using the MANUFAKTUR link ... great options on leather and color, etc.
