It's great to see this idea picking up steam and looking like a reality! One question, however. What is up with the name Cam Jam? The Florida 2008 and LA 2009 meets were/are called Can Jam because we listen to cans. Not sure if the Cam Jam is a typo or what, but I do know it is confusing.

Best of luck pulling this together and don't forget to encourage the rest of the EU to be there too. It is good that Smythe Research is interested because they have put on great demos at CanJam 08 and the recent LA meet, but somebody should also reach out to the various UK/EU MOTs like Sugden, Graham Slee, Hans, Jan Meier, RudiStor, and all the others to attend. The MOTs add a lot to meets (like funds) and they are genuinely fun to have around.

Cheers!

I'm sure the Cam Jam thing is a typo lol! Hadn't noticed that at all

Cheers for the advice on reaching out to manufactures and/or sponsors! Thats something we do have to look at you're right, and, should it happen, should beneficial to both parties. However, I think we are first looking to form a committee and then one of the roles within that organisational body will emcompass the responsibility of liasing with prospective sponsors etc.

Best regards,

Steve

Maybe the OP could fix that up.

My pleasure, Steve. Maybe you folks need to add Vendor Dude to your committee. My only other thought at the moment, is that Can Jam 09 in Los Angeles is set for May 29-31, so you should definitely leave some time between that and the UK/EU meet. Vendors as well as members might want to do both.

And then I was beginning to think this was something about cameras

Many thanks for the advice Voltron. Like Steve said, forming a committee in the first place is our main priority right now, but once set up, I think it would be extremely beneficial to talk to some of our other US counterparts with experience of organising meets - I'm sure they will also have some valuable tips for us!

Maybe the meet should be in Cambridge - then we can legitimately call in CamJam.

Picky picky picky...

Amended!

Also one thing to remember, if you do decide to take part in this "project" it does not mean that you actually have to go...

I for one am quite happy to help organize even if I don't go... I think just taking part of organizing something like this provides immense sense of gratification, ie.: giving something back...

Just though I'd mention that as well as an incentive,

That's an excellent point, although I'm sure it'll be so good that you won't want to miss it!

The thread title looks so much better! More than happy to help as you get organized. Believe me, Johnerh, you will want to be there when this meet goes down. It is the best part of this hobby, imho, and a large scale meet is even more exciting. Who knows, depending on timing I may even try to make it! There are also plenty of EU Head-Fiers who will want to make it too, so make sure you plan accordingly. Cheers.

Can those of us who are now going to take this forward get ourselves an IRC channel or something. Readily accessible instant communication for all parties would I think be advantageous.

I won't be able to help out with the organisation I'm afraid but I'd love to come along still.
