The UK Headphone Society / UK CAN JAM 2009 - Page 2

I don't often come into this section of the site - I would definitely be interested in attending this but cannot help out at the moment I'm afraid.

Could a couple of messages be put on some of the other boards to point to this thread?

Best Wishes
David

This all sounds like a great idea.I would attend for sure, but how about a sunday? Most people I know now work saturdays--

And they don't work mondays? If people stay somewhere far off for something they need the following day to get home.

well i would be interested in the meet.

But can't help out due to uni.

How about everyone who has posted in this thread so far, link to it in their signatures for a bit more exposure?

I'm always up for this sort of thing.

I think last year's UK meet was pretty successful?

Count me in.

I've taken the time out to read the prior thread to this in full- the one re the manchester house meet that, in the end, didn't materialise- and have an understanding to the genesis of this idea for a 'UK Headphone Society'. As you see from the info in my avatar, I have only been a head-fier since April this year and this does directly correspond to the length of time and experience I have with high-end audio-gear and listening etc. So comparatively, I am inexperienced and will be (much) lighter on gear, in all liklihood (though I do hope to have more by the time a meets comes to take place)! However, despite this, I love music, I love listening critically and I have taken to this hobby passionately already, albeit solely in portable investment so far (own a sony NWZ-A829 DAP, a set of Sleek Audio SA6, a pair of SE530's and the UE Triple Fi Pro 10's) and can't see that coming to a conclusion for a long, long time, if ever! My wallet's gona have to turn into sadist me thinks!. I have a lot to learn about and understand and even more to try out and explore in gear and technology and varieties and options but I think meets would be great for this process and help me with prospective buying (as everybody else who would attend)! Of course, thats only half of the value of such a meet as I imagine meeting other crazy audio enthusiasts would awesome too! The conversation and banter and just shared interest and enthusiasm would be fantastic to be a part of! To share your interest and findings and experiences with others who care just as much and as deeply as you- whats ever been better, socially? I would be interested in both the founding of a UK headphone society/club- the commitee idea sounds logical to share the responsibility and workload of organisation and management of events etc- and in the possibilty of having a meet in the meantime, not under this societal banner- I see November suggested which again is well thought out and logical to encourage the largest demographic of attendance.

So expression of personal interest aside, with regards to setting up a dedicated UK Headphone Society, I think the input from Duggeh is very well thought out and reasoned and he's reached some excellent conclusions, ideas, plans of action (short-term and long-term) and parameters and structure to such. He talks a lot of sense in these regards. However, this all comes into play once you actually have the base of interest to justify working on it and organising it, obviously. So I think we need to work now to get this idea out to as many UK head-fiers as possible and give this wanted level of interest and commitment the chance to be formed. I think the ideas for getting this out there- namely, PM'ing UK head-fiers we see active on other areas of the site, putting a link to this thread in each of our signatures and putting temporary threads advertising/directing to this one in other, more popular forums on head-fi- are all good ones and should be implemented! What you reckon?

As far as me being able to take an active role in this 'commitee/organisation team' is concerened, I am interested in assuming that level of responsibility etc, however, I will not be sure for a little while as to whether I will be able to afford the time to commit to it. I'll feedback on that one!

Come on, lets drive this mother now and get it going!

If this looks like a big thing that will seriously work out, and if it's near enough to a major airport with service from Basel, I'll do my best to make it. It would be cool to meet some of the European Head-Fiers!

With regards to organization (sorry for the American spelling ), I would suggest that you get in touch with the organizers of the three highly successful international meets that took place in the States. You can't really know everything that needs to go into one of these things for it to work well until you've done it or have talked to some people who have. While some things will be different on this side of the Pond, a lot of general principles and timelines should remain quite similar indeed.

Here's to EU-CanJam '09! Pun definitely intended!

Thanks to bloodsugars siggy, I discovered this thread. Sign me up to the mailing list if there is one.

On a side note, I live in picturesque Oxford, which is about as centrally located in the UK as you can get. Since I work at the uni, I might be able to book us a gorgeous venue at one of the colleges (failling that, we can book a historical pub for the night, which would simultaneously solve the problem of providing food and drinks!).

So I could potentially be the "location guy". Potentially.

I have been to Oxford/Oxfordshire a few times and have a very good uni friend who hails from Bista (spelled, Bichester?)! It's a lovely, lovely place, the city is relatively small but the old arhitecture and structure is stunning! I love the history that place contains. I have been on one of those opened-topped tour-bus guides around the various colleges of the University spread out in and around the city and they are often beautiful looking places, buildings and surrounding grounds. I reckon that sounds a great location, if you can pull the required strings Roxxor! And, if booked in advance, with a student rail card, the train tickets shouldn't be that bad at all. I support that suggestion

P.s// Glad you found the thread

Would definitely be interested in attending. Make this thing happen please.
if it ever happens in london, im interested.
I'd say that Carlisle is nearest the centre of the UK personally.

Oxford though, is more of the shortest distance for the greater density. Which is the better choice.

I like the Oxford idea, Might go Googling some hotels there this evening.

The "only if its in my backyard" attitude is one of the biggest killers for this whole idea. Expand your horisons. Some of us are going to have to go a long way. It's an unavoidable fact.

Of course geographically you are formally correct!

I meant with respect to population density (though an argument could be made to go a little further up north, like Birmingham, but let's be honest, who'd want to have a meet there? :P)

I understand the geographical verus population density debate of central, but I fancy Oxford also. Its a really nice place.

Glad to see this thread picking up pace, Oxford sounds like a great venue, not far from Luton or Heathrow for us Europeans.
