Latest forms of communication?

Well I'm slated to have to present on this topic, in determining how the latest in communications technology can help or hinder business communications. Anybody have any ideas on some stuff I could look more specifically into, like what IS the latest techie stuff out there that people use? The obvious ones that come to mind is internet chat programs, video conferencing, cell phone video conferencing, and wireless laptops/PDAs.

Vert, my brother in law is an engineer for Cisco. He tells me that text messaging is the hot thing with the Silicon valley techies these days.

Yup -- I see that all the time. That and IM.

But you have to decide if text messaging helps or hinders business. My friend uses text messaging (SMS) all the time, but he finally admitted to me that he uses it when he doesn't actually want to get involved in conversation with someone on the phone. It's more like a buffer system for contacting someone you don't actually want to talk to! Is that communicating or delaying tactics?
