Ah, I hope I'm still here when January rolls around. Keep me posted.

Just a reminder that we are totally full at this point, and admissions are closed unless we have cancellations. This is not a big facility, and we have a lot of gear coming. I want to have a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.

I just realized that I had not updated my gear fully. The Twisted Pear balanced Opus DAC has been gone for a while now, and will not be at the meet.

pabbi1 does have an Opus/amp combo unit however.

I'm having a balanced Twisted Pear Buffalo DAC built, but all the parts won't be available in time to have it ready for the meet.

However the builder (naamanf) just informed me that he's going to loan his balanced Buffalo out for a while, and I'm first in line. He'll be shipping it in a few days, and thinks it should be here in plenty of time for the Houston meet. This DAC has gotten great press, so I'm excited to hear it myself.

On another point does anyone have any snack suggestions?

I'll update the gear list asap.

Snacks: no red beverages per the HOA rules.

I'll be bringing some bottled water and Chex Mix. Maybe some cookies.

I'd say bring chips or crackers... finger food. Maybe some cokes.

P.S. I do need to mention that there is no microwave.

UPDATE: I have some more very exciting news!

As some of you know (because I have been pestering you with private messages about it for weeks ), I am in the market for an amp. I narrowed my list of solid-state contenders down to a few, all of which will be at the meet, and then I started researching tubes. We will have some good tube amps at the meet, but one of the companies that was most appealing to me was not on the gear list.

I contacted Jack at Woo Audio, with whom I had never had any previous contact, and asked some questions about the WA6. I mentioned the meet and pointed him to our thread. I was quite surprised and excited when he responded with a most generous offer.

Woo Audio will be sending a Woo 6 AND a fully upgraded Woo 6 SE to the meet for us to demo! In addition, Jack will be sending a headphone stand to add to our door prizes.

Now, for me personally, this is very exciting news as I am most interested in comparing the Woo Audio 6 to some of the solid-state amps in my price range and to the Singlepower tube amps at the meet. For my wife, it was somewhat less exciting... her comment was "After you spend a weekend with these two amps, I'm fairly certain only one of them will be returning".

I think it is great news for our meet as well. The "maxxed" Woo 6 SE has been compared favorably to some of the best tube amps available, and I am sure you will be as anxious to hear it as I am. I will be setting up the stock Woo 6 with my meager system, so I am looking for someone with a really good source who would be willing to hook up the SE with their rig. Sorry for your wallet if you volunteer.

Also, Jack said that he could arrange for us to receive the prototype GES electrostatic amp to demo at the meet. I don't know anything about electrostatic gear, and I have a lot to handle with these other amps. Would anyone be interested and willing to take receipt of this amp, demo it, and be responsible for returning it? If so, please send me a PM and I will ask Jack how we can make that happen. If not, I am going to pass on this offer as I just don't think I can handle it properly.

As we continue to say, this is not bad for a mini-meet.

The GES would be interesting, but I'm not sure I'm up for the task of orchestrating things... I do know that pabbi1 is taking receipt of another "demo" item that will be interesting.

I also will be bringing a couple of portable items, assuming they are here in time:

Stax SR-001mk2
TTVJ Millet Hybrid Portable

I plan to try out everything until my ears (and/or wallet) bleed.

So how many people do you know are left out, Orcin?

GES is inbound. HE 1.2b inbound. SOHA II parts received, and should take on life by the weekend.

Any recommendations on SAFE accomodations in Sugarland, preferrably with secure parking?

Thanks a bunch for handling the GES. I just sent you a PM on the accommodations. If anyone else would like the same info, please let me know.

I don't have an accurate count on unhappy people. I am really sorry that the facility is not bigger. However, I had no idea how much interest would be generated in this event when I planned it. As it turns out, Houston might be ready to handle a bigger meet.

I put together a meet based on the amount of personal risk I was willing to take. I was not willing to put out $1000 or more to rent a bigger facility on the hope that people would come and reimburse me. However, you are free to do that in the near future, and I will be glad to support you with my attendance.

In the meantime, I have made the judgement that we have reached the safe operating capacity of this facility. Given that I am personally responsible for the facility, I don't plan to exceed that capacity. Again, I am very sorry if anyone has been left out. It was first-come first-served, and I think it was communicated well and done fairly.

Orcin,
Great news on the incoming gear from Woo. Congratulations on an outstanding effort to get these pieces in for the meet. I look forward to hearing both, particularly the GES. Thanks to pabbi1 for handling the GES.

One thing we are able to do in the Dallas area is to reserve a library conference room - not completely ideal, but they are free (if you have a library card to reserve the room), so that is what we normally do. I doubt we have ever drawn more than 50 people in either Ft Worth (actually TCU) or Plano, so it has never been an issue.

I'm just hoping it isn't raining that day (karma police alert!).

And, yes, i will be bringing copious amounts of Radiohead for listening impressions.
