wolfson is like radio one. everyone want to be on it. and everyone listens to it because it is in so many products. wolfson does not mean amazing.

ipod, meizu, cowon, some kenwoods, etc etc

by the way: i prefer the meizu m6 sp to my old d2. not just interface. both are clunky but the meizu is easier to get around for me. i prefer the sound if it was not for the horrid hiss. it is probably even worse than sony players but i cannot remember as i don't have my meizu with me now

Sony player like A81x...etc

@lewislink: good hardware information about the M6SL is here:
MeizuM6Port < Main < TWiki
(linked on this page ÷È×å×·×Ù MEIZU ÷È×å - רҵ MP3 PLAYER)

a weird detail: the photo of the chip says WM8987G but the only available datasheet says WM8987L.

another question: is there a non-wolfson dap?

The UDA1380 Philips DAC produces hiss, and you can't help it - no matter it's iRiver H100/H300 or Meizu M6 SP. I hope people don't confuse the SP and the SL versions of the M6. The SP version is by more regarded as the better sounding one. I owned it for a couple of weeks and it's good for ogg's but the best option for ogg Vorbis is to skip all players built on Telechips CPU's as their SDK corrupts ogg's sound - adds static and artifacts, especially in the clix2. The best sounding player I know is iRiver E10 loaded with ogg Q10 encoded with aoTuV or Lancer encoder. There is a slight SQ improvement over the standard Vorbis encoder making the Q10 completely indistinguishable from the original, at least for me.

Is the sp better sounding? I've seen around but many people have said that they're similar though.

i received my M6-SL last week.
the sound quality is very good (much better than the 3G Ipod) with all "effects" set to zero/off.

with the q-jays i get decent output, whith the etymotic E6i the sound is rather bad, possilby due to the low impendance of 16 ohm.

currently i have no chance to compare to cowon D2 but i'm confident that i picked the right device for me.
