AKG K701 Amp Recommendations

Not sure if i posted in the right section but i was wondering what would be a good amp to be paired up with an AKG K701. It could be portable or for home use and I listen to all types of music. Price range 2-300 USD. I was looking at the Lyrix amp on Headphonia but i don't know if thats enough. I remember reading that the K701 is picky too so ... Thanks in advance

so the k701 is hard to drive and it would be better paired up with a tube amp? What kind of tube amps should i be looking into? Or does it really need a tube amp?

It's not so much that it needs a tube amp, but that the tube amp takes care of some of the super-resolved edge that some people find too pointed to enjoy. Some people take a while to get used to it, while others never get used to it.

ohh i see. i should probably try both types of amps to see which i like better. But i'm still wondering what amps should i be looking at. Any good ones you would recommend or have had good experiences with with the K701s?

Hey, I ran the same question in a similar forum a while back. I plan on getting a pair of 701s, so I wanted to scope it out as well. a couple amps that keep coming up as pretty solid are the little dot mkIII, and the darkvoice 336i. both are tube amps, and are not terribly expensive. I will be trying out a 701/little dot combo in about a week to see for myself at a meet. I'm hoping a darkvoice is there as well. read up on these two amp, they keep coming up.

I'm in the process of placing an order for a Little Dot Mk II, so I'll be able to compare that and a NAD C352 driving the K701. Shipping the Little Dot to the Caribbean is a whopping $100.! Egad.

In that price range I enjoy the K701 with my LD MKIII. You can tell they're still a bit underpowered, but they generally match together pretty well. I really liked them with a Millett Max if you're open to a DIY project or if you can find one for sale. I remember the Millett sounding a little more solid than the LD with my K701s.

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I'll probably do a little bit of research and make a choice.
