Pretty much like the title says, what is the cheapest complete system that you would consider hifi? Iems, speakers headphones it doesn't matter. and post a price too, thanks.

OK -

For Hifi, based on my experience and assuming one is buying new, I'd go with high efficiency speakers, tubed integrated amp, and tubed or SS CDP. As far as brands & $$, the choices that first come to mind are:

Speakers: Omega Super 5s @ USD 950, Omega Deep Hemp Cub @ USD 950;
Amplifier: Almarro A205 mk II @ USD 750;
CDP: Consonance 120 Linear @ USD 950.
Stands / Cables / Interconnects / Etc @ USD 300.

Total system cost w/ sub: USD 3.9K
Total system cost w/o sub: USD 3.0

When funds permit, some modding / tube rolling of the Almarro @ approx USD 400 and you'd be doin' fine for a long time.

For Headphone rig my 1st choices would be what's in my home office . . .

Yamamoto HA-02 @ USD 995;
ATH-W1000 @ USD 350;
Eastern Electric Minimax @ USD 900;
Audioquest Interconnects @ USD 100

Total system cost: USD 2,345

With another $100 or for a pair of Amperex 6922s for the EE Minimax, one would, IMO, be set for quite a while.

Cheers,
Garry

Not really, but I was interested, so why not?

maybe I'm a simpleton, but I think any ipod and a set of SR-60s goes a long way.

$65 for the Grado's, and $49 for a shuffle (but I'd spurge $149 for a nano) = $114

Remember that you asked for personal opinions ("..system that you would consider hifi?"). This is GarryH's opinion, while others may have another opinion.

Has this any relation to high-end?
It feels like trolling.

I don't think it belong in here either. Maybe in the "General" forum or something?

I'd consider UE-11s unamped out of good DAP high end.

Sorry kees but no I'm not trying to troll. I had a question and if I posted in the wrong section of the forum Then please have a mod move this thread.

I suppose you could rephrase the questions as 'what is the cheapest system you consider "high-end"'...

I don't see what's wrong with this thread. It would be nice to get a basis on what sort of gear is fit for discussion in such a forum. "High End" seems a pretty vague term to me.

It did originally say "What would represent the cheapest entry into hifi?". At least thats the reason why I though it were misplaced.
Since this is is the High-End forum, and not "just" the hifi one...
