Receiver vs iBasso D2 Boa as DAC for SR-Lambda

My setup:
1) Computer(Digital Out) -> Receiver(as DAC) -> Lambda
2) Computer -> iBasso D2 Boa 1/4mini to stereo rca(as DAC)-> Receiver -> Lambda

When I watch movies with DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, it's much more dynamic with receiver acting as the DAC. For example, there's a lot more bass. Why is this the case?

The movies via digital out of the computer is in 5.1 dolby and typically a higher bit rate like 24/96, and the USB of the iBasso is stereo only at 16/44.1 bit rate.
