Crackling in ear...without headphones! - Page 2

Well, updates.

Still no pain really, just a little discomfort. But no more crackling.

However, many times a day right now, I get the sound of a drum head being plucked (which I know it's possible, think of a string being drawn over a drum head, and then pulled, striking the head).

So weird, but I'll have to wait till late August to make sure insurance will cover a doctors visit as it is school insurance, and I am not there right now. Ugh.

I get the same thing - in my left ear. due to the nature of the operation on it....fluid or other stuff can get trapped back there and just needs time to get worked out.

However, it isn't audible to anyone and that sounds like an issue that needs a doctor immediately. You don't want to loss hearing ability over this!

Well, it's not audible to anyone else anymore, the crackling is gone (thanks to some hydrogen peroxide/water mix. I think the vinegar/alcohol I was using just dried it all out and that caused the crackle).

No one can hear the 'drum head' except me.

Well, only a few pops today, jetted it out in the shower this morning, will see if it helps over a few days.

Have you seen a doctor about this? If it was audible to others I'd be scared. Plus, if it is a sinus infection it's best to be looked at for that.

You really should go get this checked out... How much is it to go the ER nowadays? I haven't been in awhile. It is surprising that your GF can hear it. Although I have heard of a type of tinnitus that others can hear as well.

To the OP: what kind of headphones are you using? Do you use canalphones/in ear monitors(maybe impacting earwax) or full size headphones?

Also, do you listen to loud music or anything that could cause tinnitus?

I once had a cracking noise in my ear. Would make sounds when I chew, and touch my ear. Turns out there was one piece of hair inside my ear and was touching the ear drum. Thus whenever I moved, the hair would make / change the way it was touching the ear drum. I finally had a GP was it out of my ear canal - it was quick simple really, he just poured some warm water solution and flushed it out.

I think the hair got in when I was taking a shower. Happens ...

Yeah, I need to go to the doctor to have it checked...but again, school insurance, not a lot of cash right now (just a research assistant for a professor at the moment), and it's a LOT cheaper to see the school's doctor (which at the moment is 4.5 hours away).

Today's attempt: Carbamide Peroxide 6.5%. I.E. commercial ear drops and rubber bulb ear syringe for flushing.

Little update.

Got some hydrogen peroxide and an ear syringe from CVS, the syringe has a tri-port flanged tip, so water goes around the canal and not directly at the drum.

Used both, but it was recommended to me to use the H2O2 and syringe three times a day for a few days to loosen up anything that may be there.

And after the first try...still a little noise, but I did have a small piece of wax come out that hadn't moved before, and it's feels a bit better (although I do have a small headache because I forgot to warm the H2O2 to body temp. first, whoops).

here's hoping more softens over time.

And to think I clean my ears everyday and get this, shows me some things are best left to their own devices!

Seems like it's better! No drum in the ear for a few days

Uh, well I'm a bit alarmed: ENT is not my specialty, but, in general, under no circumstances should you attempt syringing yourself, or put any substance in your ear unless directed to do so by your doctor. Water and hydrogen peroxide worsen compacted cerumen (wax) problems by causing wax to expand, and may also inflame the external auditory canal. Tinnitus refers to high frequency 'buzzing' in the ear which occurs with cochlear/ciliary/8th nerve damage (usually due to exposure to loud noise over a long period, or in specific diseases like Meniere's), and is not audible to other people. Anyway, see yer doctor!!

I get this crackling sound in my ears when after I've been listening to bright headphones...

Lasts for several days. Then (if I do not listen to the bright headphones) it goes away.

If I start listening to the bright headphones it starts all over.

I have experienced this enough times to feel quite certain about the direction of causality.

Anybody else experienced such issues?
