Sony D-Fj401

Have you checked out the Sony D-FJ401? Xin, the guy who makes the SuperMini amp seems to like them.

Here is a link where he explains why:

The D25S is thinner than the D555, and to me feels much lighter ~ the D555 is well fabled for all of its sound altering effects (some of which are better than others) whereas the D25S ~ if you don't like the sound, tough ~ there are no sound altering facilities (not even bass boost)

Hope it helps

PCDMp3P

Actually, Amazon is selling the iRiver SlimX iMP-350 for 99.99. Add the $10.00 discount coupon from DealsOnTheWeb.com and you've bought one of the mos' dec(ent) modern pcdps (hiss notwithstanding) with full mp3 capability for $89.99 shipped. The battery life's said to be longer than that of the iMP-400 (on this board, at least), which costs millions of cent fragments more.

So, all CD players have that quiet hiss in the background? I thought it was just the older ones.

I bought my Sony D-EJ721 from Buy.com for 80 bucks or so. Has line out, which also doubles as digital out.

Oh yea and use SEARCH.

Unfortunately, if you're speaking about USA-market Panasonic PCDPs, none of their 2002 or 2003 models have a line out at all whatsoever - their only audio output is the headphone out (which has been bad-sounding of late). And Panasonic will never again put a line out on any of the USA or Canada versions of their PCDPs.

What adds to their idiocy is that their remotes do not have pause buttons.
