Wadia owners, hands up! - Page 2

Sorry to bring this topic back up, but there are some recent Wadia news items that I thought I would share:

- For the month of February, Wadia has lowered the price of the upgrade from the 581 SE or 581i SE to the 781i. Ordinarily, the price of the upgrade from the 581i SE to the 781i is US$3500, but this month it is US$2500. The upgrade replaces the power supply section and updates the software. From talking to a few people that have heard the 581 against the 781i, the upgrade seems to make a noticeable and substantial improvement. Here's a PDF showing the offer:

- Wadia is also working on some new items. From what I can gather from various news sources, here's what they have planned:

The 381 CD player, which is pretty much the same as the 581 SE, but without SACD playback. This is expected to retail for US$6950, or US$3000 less than the 581 SE. This seems like it will be a pretty good bargain when it comes out for those of us (like me) who don't listen to SACDs.

The 571 CD transport, which will have some new disc clamping technology, and will retail for US$7950.

The 922 decoding computer, which will break the bank at US$33,450. What do you get for that money?
Quote:
This flagship model features no fewer than six power supplies each for digital and analog audio circuits, benefiting from Inductor Filtering and Power Factor Correction balanced power technologies devised by Wadia. The components on the main decoding circuit have been upgraded, and the 922's mono architecture features eight D-A converters per channel. Wadia's most powerful DigiMaster 1.4 up-sampling algorithm
provides a 2.8224MHz data rate with 26-bit resolution from a standard CD, which is said to result in nuance and detail that will delight the listener.

The 971 CD transport and 981i CD player (price undetermined at this point, but expected to be in the US$15,000 to $20,000 range). This will be a new series, with a different chassis construction from the current 581/781 series (so unfortunately, no upgrades from the 781i to the 981i).

The 151 digital amp and the 121 digital computer. These are more cost-conscious models, with the 151 being under US$1000 and the 121 being US$1000 without the headphone amp and US$1500 with the headphone amp.

It's good to see this flood of new products. I love the Wadia sound, and everyone I've ever met over there were good guys who really enjoy great sound and music.

I also thought this link was interesting...looks like Wadia's coming full speed to the computer audio party:
