In the sydney morning herald (Aus, syd) there was an article which listed a few of the most expensive components. It had the Wilson WAMM (Wilson Audio Modular Monitor) as most expensive $450,000, Audio Note Ongaku II mono-valve amplifier at $504,500 and Sennheiser Orpheus at $27,999. These are all AUD.

On another note, it said the best amp was the Halcro dm68 at$37,990 and the best CDP was th Linn CD12 at $35,000.

Does this all sound right? or can you prove them wrong

I wouldn't be quick to disagree with the Halco suggestion, the Linn could be argued to death though

exactly what dd3mon said.

In terms of cost I've seen gear more expensive than the WAMM. The Grand Engima Reference System cost $1,000,000, weighs about 12 tons, and produces 30 kilowatts of power.

"This 12 ton system is fully active with 30kW of amplification, equipped with 24 ultrahigh efficiency planar-magnetic HF-units, 24 15-inch LF drivers and 48 6-inch MF drivers. Placed in a specially prepared subterranean listening room of 45,000 cubic feet, it presents sound with incredible dynamics and limitless power, easily reproducing live concert levels at a distance of 10 meters. Needless to say, Charles was paid well for his work. "

I can't remember where I read it but at some recent audio show, the room with the Halcro amps in it was apparently not up to snuff. there were a number of disappointing reports about those amps, something was off.

I've heard the Halcro amps on six different occasions.they are never up to snuff.I don't know but I tend to think they aren't as great as hyped. The local dealer has never sold a single pair yet has had them on active display in his main room for over a year, longer than any other gear.He won't say anything bad about them but the performance of that system is far from great.
