low impedance headphones + amp = any point? - Page 2

Yeah I've been looking into them and I like what the Go-Vibe v7 has to offer...but damn it's hard to find with emailing Jaben first.

There are lots of low-impedance headphones that highly benefit from the right amp - the electrical characteristics are only part of the equation, there's also the sonic benefit of amping low-impedance headphones. Just because low impedance makes a headphone easy to drive doesn't mean said headphone is going to sound good directly out of a headphone jack.

Low impedance does not necessarily make headphones "easy to drive", sensitivity will let you know how they respond to voltage/current (e.g. K701 at 62 Ohms).

Presenting a low impedance load (headphone) to an amp will pull more current than a high impedance load at same voltage so making sure there is enough current output on the amp is generally a good thing.

Also, just because an amp is "Good for Sennheiser" (has a high voltage swing) does not make it any better or worse for Grados. Voltage and Current output on the amp are not mutually exclusive.

OP: Yes, there is a point, but for your headphones, I think you'll benefit more from selling your headphones and using the money from the sale and your amp budget to upgrade heapdhones. Just my opinion.

I can attest that adding an amp for the RE2 will indeed improve SQ, but not by much. I paired it with an iBasso D2 Boa. It added to the extension at both ends and soundstage widened. These were the two most obvious difference the amp made.

Is it worth it to get an amp for the RE2? Nope. It's better if you invest that money toward getting a better iem that doesn't need an amp to shine such as the SA6.

Now if you're eventually gonna move up to the RE1, then getting an amp now is definitely worth it.
