Ultimate Sony a728 Equalizer and DAC settings - Page 7

These settings work with the A729, and the latest firmware. After I do the whole up/down etc. routine, i actually have to quickly slide the hold switch off for the firmware menu to turn on.

Other than that, turning the treble down helped quite a bit with the noise.

I don't agree with turning up most of the EQ bands though, it distorts the music with my X5s, sounds better flat with some clear bass.

Bass: -0.0 @ 50Hz
Treble: -4.5 @ 15kHz

These work for me. I'm glad to see I'm not alone w/my adjusting of the DAC settings to clear up Sony's strange sense of SQ upgrade. Now, this is on par w/my D2!!!!

Thanks! After tinkering with different suggestions I found those firmware adjustments the best ones. My headphones are fine with a flat EQ still, but your Bass and Treble DAP adjustments really clean up the signal.

Glad the info some of us managed to acquire helped.

Oops, I forgot to write down the default bass and treble gain settings before I changed them.

Does anyone know the defaults for the Sony NWZ-A729, I think it should be the same as the A728, the only difference is this is a 16GB player.

Thanks!

After the fifth time reading this thread, I finally got to the tweaking menu. Thanks DTKZ for the detailed steps. I use SCL-4 mostly (ATH-ES7 sometimes) with my A728, now settling with:
bass -1.5 @ 50Hz
Treble: -6.0 @ 10kHz
clear bass: +2
+1, +1, 0, 0, +1, everything else off.

Looks like I don't need to hook it up to the fiio e5 anymore.

hey guys....i found my ultimate setting....i've been twitching since 2009 (enough to say how much setting i've been tru)

i'm neither a metal freak nor a basshead..so i'm more to the vocal cuz i think that the vocal of 728 is warm but nt "front" enough...

after countless times of trying on the service menu..i got this finally

DAC:

bass:- 0.0 @ 100hz

treble:- -4.5 @ 15khz

clear stereo-ON

DSEE--ON(off when i'm listening to pop)

equalizer:

0.4=>16khz

+2 ,+1 ,0,+1,+2(it's conventional "V" setting..but i found out that this setting reproduce the sound of instrument accurately)

CLEAR bASS-- +2(during pop)...+1/0 during normal listening...

VOL--  8<x<14

set the FC at 100hz does lose some low edges...but suprizingly i found out that i can hear the bass detail more on 100hz setting...and lower too....welcome for critics and comment on other sifus...

My favourite DAC settings for the A828 are:

Bass 0.0 @ 50Hz (love the lows of my RE0s)

Treble -3.0 @ 10Khz (takes a little harshness off the highs)

SOUND ENHANCEMENTS

Every sound enhancement i leave off, although i do find using clear stereo on a good set of IEMs seem to compress the sound a little, has the opposite effect and acts more like a crossfeed.

Dynamic Normalizer -OFF. If something is soft i like to hear it soft (it makes the loud bits even better) .

EQ

Clearbass +2 or +3 then something like this  +2 +1 0 +1 +1 (RE-ZEROs) and (RE0s) +2 +1 +1 +1 +1.

I find pushing up the EQ a little across everything makes the sound a bit more dynamic and fun.

Sony A726

-1.5@50hz

-1.5@15khz

Results in wider soundstage, less muddy sound & better transition between lows, mids & highs.

0.0@50hz is just too much of bass but could be great for bass light phones.

in the CLESTE option on my A828 the 2 options are WCABLE or WOCABLE.

i dont see anything about clearbass?

oops...sorry...i mean clear stereo...thanks for correcting....

yup...actually it's like this...

what clear stereo do is improve the separation of the sound channel right??but this technology hv different effect on

different phones....luckily a728 allows us to get things right

to get thing right...go to service manual..in the CLESTE option click the wocable...

a sin wave will be played in MAX VOLUME on the left channel..please take off ur phones to avoid deafness XD

now put on ur right earphone...you will hear a weak (weaker then left channel) sound as well...

this is the sound leakage....

to catch it back....increase or decrease the value untill u can hear the minimum sound (do the same on WCABLE as well)...then exit service menu

turn on  clear stereo in the music setting...and ENJOY XD

for the stock ex-82 ..it falls on WCABLE-34 and WOCABLE-38

i find it the best for philips shp2700 at WCABLE-30 and WOCABLE-30

for koss KSC75....surprisingly..turn the clear stereo off is the best...SWT+LOL

u can test the diff by playing these.. http://reviews.imp3.net/testfiles/left.mp3  http://reviews.imp3.net/testfiles/right.mp3

turn clear stereo on and off while playing the test file tell u how much difference...XD
