I took shipment of my new WA6 SE this afternoon. It is still in the box. I hope to touch it later on this evening!

When did you place the order? When was it shipped out? Did you get the premium parts?

We need pics and a comparative review. You have 24 hours to post both or the next meet is at your place.

I ordered it a month ago. Standard build, no extras. I am saving up for the Sophia Electric 'Princess' 274B tube.

Do you have an exact date when you placed the order?

Congratulations. Amps like the Woo are fine products and definitely worth the investment. The SE model is a very cool looking one and I am a believer of strong power supplies. Good catch!

Congrats on receiving the SE. I ordered mine on 5-30 and was told two days ago that there's a 1-2 week delay in building them. If you can post some pics of its externals and internals that'd be great... a nice review would be good too!

Sent a check to Woo on 7 May. I imagine they had it within three days, so let's say around 10 May.

A few quick external photos of the new Woo.

Initial Impressions:

Fit and finish is top-notch. Knobs feel solid. No scratches or fingerprints on the case. Packaging was outstanding.

I am using a Squeezebox 3 > Beresford DAC > WA6 SE and ran through a few of the binaural recordings from the Ultrasone CD and, well, WOW! I don't know or pretend to understand all the fancy terms that ciritical listeners use, but this is a rich and powerful amp. I am coming off an LD MKII which is really a terrific amp, but the WA6 SE is just in a whole other class. The bass is quite deep and tight with HD650's. Very nice, full soundstage, particularly after the Beresford DAC. I feel that the mids and highs one some music that were bordering on 'shrilly' or 'harsh' with the LD are softer/tamed and more refined. Perhaps this is more ture to the tube sound I read so much about. This change makes it easier to listen to entire tracks at higher volumes rather than having to turn it down for some passages and turn it back up later in the song. Does that description mean anything to anyone?

I believe Woo Audio has a real winner here at an attractive price point. I skipped the $500 of modifications, mostly high end capacitors. Instead, I will save up for the Sophia Electric 'Princess' 274B rectifier tube. From what Jack says and what I have read on the Internet, the Princess will make a dramatic improvement to the sound at a much lesser cost than the mods.

Is that a source selector next to the Woo? If so, what is it?

you may be referring to the "un-compressed" sound... with 1 watt of power and
excellent set of output transformers setting the boundary of dynamics, nothing
should be held back... nothing should sound forced nor on edge (except for bad
recordings and lowbit mp3s) even in the most dynamic passages. if you want
to refine the sound even more with the laid-back quality try the 6ew7 and
a gz30 or a 5r4gy... they're a lot more affordable than the princess too. the 6de7
output will give you more impact and punchy attack at the cost of soundstage.

the sub-bass and mid-bass thru this amp should sound expansive yet taut,
detailed yet resonant with beautiful decay... my ps-modded wa6 has superb bass
but i can only imagine what your unit will sound like after a break-in...

btw, what # is your amp? is yours the first one?

I'm very interested in how the WA6 SE would handle a pair of K1000's, given then ~1W output rating

Looks nice. Now you know the definition of "built like a tank". With my old WA6 I could blindfold myself and randomly toss it behind me and probably kill 5 people.
