Looking forward to your M5 review ClieOS.
I was robbed last Fri evening so no more Denon c700s for me.
I had been eyeing the SA6s & M5s all along so maybe I'll just go for one of those to replace the denons. I do like the denon bass.

Wow, that stinks. I owned the M5s, but sold them for the SA6s. I much prefer the latter's sound. Durability is still up in the air, but the sound from the SA6 is superior in my view. You can judge via Clieos' comparison when he reviews the M5s.

Value wise, q-Jays is better in my opinion.

Currently I have almost 100hrs of burn in and several hours of different audition sessions on it. The sound is close to finalize as I detect subtle to no change in SQ after 60hrs of burn in. With out any problem, I am most likely to write up the review with in next day or two.

What are your findings regarding instrument placement? I found that it was not nearly as precise as on my armature IEMs, and that, along with the midrange recession (vocals sounded dark and far away), was the main reason for I disliked the Atrios so much.

Soundstage and imagine is definitely not Atrio's strong point. You are right that everything does sound far away in a way, most likely because of the strong bass which I think is more forward than mid and treble (or further mid and treble, depending on how you like to see it). The problem is most apparent when I listen to M5 on louder volume, where bass become too dominate. On lower volume, I tend to pay more attention on mid and treble thus I can picture a better sonic imagine

Confession: I am a real fans of Etymotic's sound

I like iM716, but I am trying not to factor too much of my own personal listening taste into the review (yeah, that's really hard and I am not so sure I am doing a good job at it ).

I decided not to ask what i wanted to ask, but i think you are doing a great job at not putting your own personal listening taste becaseu you put ex 700 so hig up although u do not like the sibilance.

Can't wait for that PL-30 review

It's desperately in need of a proper review considering all the rage about it atm.
Anyway: Vote for sticky!!!
Vote for ClieOS to be Mod of this forum too :P

SA6 require amp?

Hello,

I am currently considering getting the SA6. But I am concerned that it may require an amp to get a satisfying volume out of them. Until now I had the Westone UM1, which unfortunately died some days ago. I had a quite comfortable volume at a ~50% setting of my player (Cowon G3), but also had it up to ~75% on some occasions . But the UM1 have only half of the SA6's impedance, therefore I fear the volume to be not high enough, at least in those "special" moments. What do you think?

Kind regards,
nachttier

I never find SA6 to not have enough volume in any occasion. In any case, I do wonder if you are listening to your music in excessive volume, which will eventually result in hearing damage. If you have seen it, there is an IEM guide listed in my signature that you have a look at, especially regarding section 'IEM and Health'.

Thank you for your answer, ClieOS. I also hope I do not use excessive volume levels, but I really don't think so, since going for anything more than the mentioned 75% will really start to be too much. And as I said, the 50% setting of my player is a very comfortable setting I use 95% of the time without any issues (no ringing in the ears or things like that).
As I said, I was just a bit afraid that these earphones would require an amp, in contrast to others like the Atrio M5 which I also had considered.
So if volume-wise these two perform comparable, I think I will go for the AS6.

Kind regards,
nachttier
