HELP!!! DAC with 2 RCA outs?

Posted this in computer as audio, but got...

My Beresford completely stopped working today- not even a yr old. Are there any other DACs that have the same rear config. I really need a DAC with 2 seperate RCA outs and what would also be nice is 2 optical inputs. I didn't realize Beresford was the only one to do this, as a fairly lengthy search did not find any good DACs with this option. I would consider paying up to $5-600.

You can check out this DAC reference here:

After a quick look, I see both Citypulse DAC's have 2 RCA outputs. One is fixed, one is variable. There may be more on the list within your price range.

Thanks Redo, been thru that list with a fine tooth comb. Very good list too, but nothing on it that replicates the output ability of the Beresford. I have to say it but I may just get another one. The way I have my HP amp and integrated amp set up off my computer it is essential to have 2 RCA outs. What does the variable out mean/ do? Can it replicate a true line out?

Variable output means you can adjust how loud the output is. Fixed means it stays constant. Variable output is still a true line output.

^ So you just max the volume to get true line out? With everyone such a stickler on true line out what is the advantage of adding volume adjustment? Isn't everyone plugging their DAC straight into some sort of amp (with volume)?

Does the variable out amplify or simply attenuate? Either way, is it done digitally or by using a pot?

Yes, that should be exactly the case. I guess there could be some scenarios where the output is too hot for some preamps and amps, and you can turn down the output a bit.

I see only one volume knob, and there's both a variable output and a headphone output. My guess is the volume knob adjusts both simultaneously.

There's also XLR outputs, so you can pickup XLR to RCA single ended adapters. That way you'd have two fixed outputs.

You got a PM, Pangaea.

CIAudio VDA-2 has two sets of RCA outs. Both are true line outs and there is no selector switch. The DAC will send a signal out both at the same time so you can send to two amps simultaneously if you wanted to.

Plus, with a special adapter, you can convert the two sets of RCA outs to a set of balanced out.

I've used good quality RCA splitter adapters with a DAC1 and noticed no degradation in sound quality. I'm not sure if this would work as well with any source or DAC, but it's worth considering to widen your options.

Yes I forgot about the VDA-2. That would be a killer choice if you can afford one.

another option along those lines is the Mapletree LR 1 Line Router, which you can customize to your needs.

It sounds like you're looking for a complicated solution to a simple problem. As Headphony stated above, a good quality RCA splitter will do the trick.

I successfully use a splitter on the back of my Marantz SA-11 to allow simultaneous connection of my headphone and loudspeaker systems.

where does one find a splitter of sufficiently good quality?

Ummm - why not make a device that can output into RCA's in a separate box? Why not just get a switcher? Both would be pretty easy builds and I am sure there are soe DIYers who would be glad to help.

I would offer - but I am far too busy with other projects at the moment.
