5.1 fi?

Thinking of getting a 5.1 receiver or something. Already have 4 speakers and a subwoofer. Just hate the idea of giving up my nice sounding Creek integrated amp. Was thinking of using the preamp outs from that thing to the power amp input on the integrated to power the fronts, and use the crummy amp for the rears and center. But that means giving up the simple path of the preamp in the Creek and just using it as a power amp. Maybe send 3 cables to the receiver and the fronts straight to the Creek? Seems wrong no matter what. Do I have to just move it to the bedroom?

Thoughts? Alternatives?

It doesn't hurt to have separate music/movie rigs.

I'll be getting that Smyth Research box when it comes out, so I can have my cake and eat it too.

My home theater is vastly underused since I live in a small condo with paper thin walls. My Velodyne HGS-10 sub doesn't get to stretch it wings ever. It's a real shame since it's such an awesome room shaker.

The Onkyo 905 offers a lot for the money and has a pure mode for 2ch.
Size of room and type of speakers and level in db that you listen to would help in giving recommendations.

A few years back I considered replacing my Luxman amp with a new fangled surround amp, but found that the surround amps didn't sound nearly as good for music listening. I kept my Luxman; it's in another room.

That's what I was afraid of. Well, at least it's good news. Don't have to spend the money. I'll just hook up the rears in the bedroom, and the old speakers in the playroom. I have a few amps lying around. Most of the stuff I watch is old and not in surround anyway.
