ouch... it really pays off to learn how to solder...

but i suppose having it professionally done, with a
warranty behind it may be worth it.

i was thinking... if you get it done with a new purchase
then it shouldn't be as costly... but, i can see how sending
a finished/used unit back in to have it desoldered and soldered
with new specs would be very time consuming for them
and so the price may be reflective of that... i still
say one should learn to solder...

I actually prefer the standard woo 6 to the raptor the upgraded caps and PS are gravy. If you are going to go RSA I like the HR2 over the raptor .

You mean I am the "one" who should learn to solder.

I can solder stuff, and have 2 corded soldering irons, one butane soldering iron, and one battery power instant heat/cold soldering iron. The issues are not understanding the circuit and what it should look like when I am done, as well as trying to control my fine motor tremor caused by all the medications that I am on to keep me alive.

They don't teach us how to build and modify tube amps in medical school, but I can take your appendix out in 20 minutes. As doctor McCoy on Star Trek would have said to Captain James T. Kirk, "Dammmit Jim, I'm a doctor not an engineer!"

Nice but what if he doesn't want his appendix out? Can you put it back in? :^)

and as spock may have said to doctor mccoy,

"we simply must accept the fact that taking out
an appendix without anesthesia may've led to his death."

or

"i believe you've already said that doctor."

or

"Quite simply doctor, I examined the problem from all angles,
and it was plainly hopeless. Logic informed me that under the
circumstances, the only logical action would have to be one of
desperation."

Here, give this link to your nurse friend: Inside Surgery / Appendix Removal (Appendectomy)

Give me a code and off we go, start pumpin and then jump back and hit'um with 200 joules and then pump and then some epi and start pumping again Jim. Gott'a keep that brain oxygenated and gotta get that thumper goin.

You missed the tongue in cheek humor there, being so preoccupied with Gore and all. Good thing he didn't get elected president, he wasn't funny enough.

Yeah, I guess Bush has done a pretty good job as a stand-up buffoon. While I don't like to be disparaging about people he has done a great deal of damage and I think Gore would not of succumbed to such a low level.

oh, I think we are derailing this. Sorry.

More people buy both amps and report back. Hey its only money. Beam me up Scotty!

Thanks...

I really appreciate all of your comments... It looks like I will have to purchase both the fully modded 6SE and the Raptor to truly see which is better (or at least what my ears think are better).

Right now I have a Blueberry Audio head-amp which really isn't cutting it. But before I part with it I wanted to know if I could swap out the four ( 680uf 32V Nichicon) capacitors for four Nichicon gold grade 1000uf 35v capacitors. I know the values are different but thats the closest values I found on there site. Would this be a smart choice (I'm not an electronic engineer so please bare with me)?

Thanks again
Tom

Caps are very important but there are many other things that make an amp so. . and going to larger value caps is fine but . . I would go with, if you are wanting a home amp . . . one of the ones being discussed. There are many fine home amps that you will be able to enjoy the heck out of and have a truly rewarding musical experience.

i presently own the raptor.i know the standard woo is less expensive and i have yet to hear a woo amplifier but these are my opinoins of the raptor with my stock akg 701(with a lot of hours on them).first the akg 701 sound really does change for the better with a lot of hours on them.they get so open at the top and bottom.the raptor has become a phenominal match for the akg 701 phones.they are so real sounding wih the raptor much more real than my burson ha160.i find myself these days listening to my raptor much more than the burson.the sound is very transparent with astounding resolution the sound is very three dimensional with an enormous soundstage.the sound is very tight with much better tonal development than the burson 160.the raptor has also given me an education in dynamics.i am using a denon 3930 ci cd player and cds have much better dynamics on the raptor than the burson 160.the difference from the softest pasage and the loudest passages are more pronounced on the raptor.i find that when i am listening to the burson that there is a smoothening of the sound as compared to the raptor and that the sound is missing something(excitement) with the burson 160.i hear low level information that is missing with the burson 160 that is very apparent with the raptor,i have to add that i have upgraded the fuses in both amps.i am using a gold hifi tuning fuse in the raptor and a silver hifi tuning fuse in the burson.i am using a kubala sosna emotion power cable on the raptor.i found the burson did not respond to the kubala very well it seems to be better with the stock power cord.i also got a noticeable improvement when i isolated the raptor on a hospital grade tripplite six outlet strip.i have the denon in another tripplite six outlet strip seperate.tripplites are very cheap and gave me a useful improvement in sound.i forgot to mention i also have a gold hifi tuning fuse in my denon cd player and am using another kubala sosna emotion power cable on the cd player.i hope these impressions give you some insight on getting the best out of your equipment.
