The guy ended up just dealing with it from what I remember but I would have sued denon. I'm not saying that he should get the mods just see if Mark will repair them. The mods are a personal thing. I liked the level 1 mod I had done but can understand someone not liking it.

WHAT !!!!,  why !!!, D7100 is just disgusting to listen to. OH MY !. speechless...

Mine is stock, though I cut the cable shorter and put a balanced plug on the end. Stock cable is way too long. Also been thinking about doing the level 1 mod myself...and seeing how easy it is to access the drivers, I might eventually build a really nice cable and attach that. But I'm not that interested in changing the cups and doing all these other mods...not even sure about the level 1, anyway.

Haven't listened to the D7100s, can it be that bad?  Versus Beat, which is better?

Agree, beats are better than D7100. I am serious, and Mace is very experienced audiophile.

Trust me you don't want to buy D7100.

It became too bright and sibilant. I couldn't stand it.

Imagine how I felt.  I purchased the D7000s before I was familiar with Head-Fi.  The RRP for the D7000s in Aus was 2.3K, the HD800 was 2.5K at that time.  I purchased the D7000...then at head-fi realised I didn't get such a great deal...then they started going for 600 bucks.

WTF was going on.  No wonder Fostex decided to seize control of this model, and I have reason to believe that the only difference between the D7k and TH900 is the cups.

Once compensated for with EQ this is what I noticed:  The Bass on the D7k was at the same level of articulation as the HD800.  Bring the D7k bass down to HD800 level and they were very tight.  Bring the HD800 up to D7000 level...and the HD800 bass was exactly like the D7k thump.

I haven't been following the TH900 as I now know I am not a closed can listener.  You may be right, but has anybody pulled them apart side by side?

The transient response from the D7000 is no different to the T1 and HD800 in the overall scheme of things.

Yes, pads and damping.

Also it's fine by me if you don't like Lawton it's just after reading that woe is me thread I have no idea how you could suggest anyone to send their headphones back to denon for repair.

I read a bad review on the internet about my local Porsche dealer last year. Do you think I should bring my 911 to a Chevy dealer for service instead?

Lawton, martin at mca, Larry from headphile, or maybe even fostex are ten times better suggestions. I don't know if fostex will work on denon headphones but I would at least look into it. Sending them to denon is just a horrible idea imo.

OK
