Maybe you're right with the stock pads.

There is a reason why they are made with the headphones.

Best is the enemy of the good

The smell I've had with mine has faded after a whole night in a mix of water and moist milk Lotion.

Here in France, second hands prices have now been seriously reduced, after a certain kind madness in 2012/2013 (maybe due to the Fostex TH900 price, as they are supposed to be cousins).

The first year they demo'd the pre-production Fostex TH900 at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest they were on the level of a D2000 with recessed mids and tipped up bass and treble.  The next year the TH900 production model sounded very different, and was very good.  They were on about the same level as my LA-7000, which are a pair of heavily modded D7000 including upgraded leather ear pads, Jenna Labs cable, internal dampening, and upgraded wood cups.

I like the TH900 but not the $2K price they came out at. At RMAF last fall I should have tried to try them side by side with the LCD-XC (of which I preferred the LCD-X open cans)

EDIT TO FIX AUTOCORRECT

I wanted to love and buy the TH900 badly. The price sent me runnin' down the street... in the other direction.:normal_smile :

Yeah they are very attractive headphones.  If only I have a place in the lineup for them, but I decided to hang onto the modded D7000's instead of bite the bullet with that huge price tag.

Buddy, they are so close to the D7000 it's eerie. Well, not really, since the chassis is the same. Anyway, with 52 year old hearing, they both sound amazing and clones of each other. Save the delta and stay with your first love. I'm keeping them both so I have one set in the family room, where I do most of my listening and one upstairs in the home office being fed by the Spec system. This, too, a nod to 52 year old knees in this case, worn out from hockey, baseball and running. Don't have to run up and down to retrieve.

Would anyone be interested in my D7000s? They look brand new with very little hours and the jack is re-terminated with balanced 4 pin Amphenol plug?  I love this can but have a preference for open cans.  You guys don't want to know how much of a loss I will take if I sold these if you knew how I purchased them over the counter brand new.

Give Silent One a chance at them?

 My dealer (one of 'em) is sitting on a NOS pair for me. But I've bigger Cat to deep-fry at the moment! I'm sorting through potential preference for resistors versus autoformers for the HE-6. Currently auditioning the latter... now at 21 hours; racing toward 100-150.

Amazon has them listed for around 1900 under used and refurbished...that's a bit ridiculous no?  What's the story? :confused_face_2:

At that price a TH900 makes a lot more sense.  I spent a lot of time with the TH900 and April Music Eximus DAC/amp at RMAF 2012 and it was a fantastic and fun sounding combo, other than the two items were about $4,900 combined, I think.

PS:  That combo couldn't beat my Stax SR-007 Mk1 + Stello DA-100 + KGSS amp, which costs closer to $4,000 for the set.
