I find the hd650 like my perfect headphone except for its lacking in midbass which makes my electronic music sound meh~.

Would the d7k solve my problem without sacrificing or even make the hd650 sound better?

I find the d5k slightly fatiguing in te highs and a bit muffled (unclear) sound. A little more sound staging and better detail retrieval would be better too.

Would the d7k solve my prob becos u heard ppl say it lacks impact in midbass?

I've not owned the HD650, but I owned the HD600 and the D5k.

To me, the D5k is harsh in the highs and flabby / muddy / bloated in the bass. The D7k solved both those issues.

I found the HD600 to be very good, but I am not that fond of open cans in general... but what was the deal breaker for me was the roll-off in the highs. Otherwise they are great cans, with a very nice warm overall signature.

To my ears and tastes, the D7k are what I like to listen to for extended periods.

And off topic slightly... again, to my ears, the HE-6 is as good as any cans I've heard (within my budget). If they were closed, I'd snap 'em up in a heartbeat.

So does the d7k tighten or lessen the bass. And are we talking abt midbass or sun bass here?

So the d5k was midbass? Because I love their bass response and was hoping the d7k were to tighten things up and sound better that's all. If its ALL subbass and no midbass, it becomes not my cup of tea. But hw abt midbass quantity vs the hd650
post #6216 of 7143

d7k has less sub-bass vs the d5k as far as i know, haven't heard the d5k though.

the hd 650 has much less midbass than both, but its still pretty good, though more neutralish.

So the d7k have more sub bass than mid bass but their midbass quantity when compared to the hd650 will definitely be more right? How abt sound staging and clarity and detail compared to the hd650. I heard from innerfidelity the muffled sound is gone from the d5k. That itself makes it on par with the hd650. Why not i put this like this: d7k vs hd650
post #6218 of 7143

yes. more sub-bass and midbass is still more than hd 650s

i feel theres a bit more clarity on the d7000, more detail. as far as clarity/transparency goes, its about the same really, the denons are a little grainy in the treble, but nothing bad. soundstaging is pretty good since for an open headphone the hd 650 isn't too great, and the d7000 is great for a closed headphone, so its about the same.

the d7000 are better overall though, they sound better, are smoother and clearer in the mids, have alot more sub-bass, bass is of better quality/quantity,  mids are a little recessed on the denons but still good, and very detailed. the highs are much better than the hd 650s which roll them off.

So the d7k is better not only in bass, cool. (But this shld be expected since its x2 price)
Actually I think if I were to have the d7k vs the LCD 2, what do you think?

Honestly, aside from soundstage, the LCD2 is everything the HD650 wishes it could be. I say this, as an HD650 fan, and as someone who compared them directly a few days ago.

The D7000 is absolutely my favorite headphone, but it's not similar to the 650 whatsoever.

Its my iphone autocorrect.... Well I suppose both of them (d7k and hd650) have the warmth which I like. So from what you mentioned, the lcd 2 is a better hd650 in every aspect except for soundstaging. Okay. But was wondering more of like lcd2 vs d7k and d7k vs hd650. You see, I am able to audition the lcd 2 and hd 650 but not the d7k. Both the lcd 2 and hd650 I really love them in every aspect except for bass quantity. (They ain't got enough OOMPH!) I was hoping that the D7k may have at least the SQ of the hd650 (better would be great) and some MOAR bass. I really love the looks of the d7k and since it's so rare now, if they fit my Sonic Signature and have SQ better than the HD650, I will be most likely jumping on them. :)

The D7K has better sound, IMHO, but it's different. You trade off forward-ish mids, for slightly recessed mids, and extra treble sparkle. The sub-bass on the D7K is legendary.

i find tat the d7k mids can be brought more forward on "mid"/"hi" gain on my amps...

so no complaints about recessed mids for me.

I am a little concerned about sparkly highs. Because I'm quite sensitive. I find the d5k's highs fatiguing. Is the d7k brighter or darker? Subbass legendary huh? How about some midbass action?

Lcd-2 has more midbass and its tighter and punchier. My lawton modded d7000 had sibilant treble, im not sure how stock compares
