I do not think you will be disappointed with the HE-500s.  The HE-500s are one of the best headphones available at the price point - easily.  I loved them immensely when I owned them and think you made a good choice on them.

DG, if you really wanted to get back into the Fostex house sound, the TH-600's and TH-900's are right around the corner.

What DAC/AMP will you be pairing with your HE-500's?

yeah i always have the TH-600 as a d7000 replacement, and i can always buy a TH-900 in the future

im still gonna use my PS Audio DL III (i saw a nuwave on the forums, but i think the DLIII is still a solid dac and a good source). i'll be using the WA6-SE unless for some reason it doesn't pair well with the HE-500, though i'm sure it will. i got plenty of tubes to roll in case i need to. 3-4 rectifiers and tons of 6xx7 power tubes.

hopefully i don't have to upgrade anything, that way i can have enough for an aftermarket cable for the HE-500

The WA6SE should pair well with the HE-500s, I'd imagine.  When are you getting the TH-600?  I must have missed that...

oh im not buying TH-600, was just saying its always available to buy in case i miss the d7000 sound.

A solid setup you've got yourself there.  The K501's have been described as a poor man's HD800's and if that holds true, the HE-500s will be a perfect compliment.

If the homecoming goes well, does that put your LCD2's on the chopping block or dare I say it... your T1's? :)

The D7000's I had on loan have been returned a week early.  I realized that I did not miss the sound signature at all and only missed the idea of owning them.

lol not at all,  the LCD-2 and T1 and HD 800 are here to stay!

I kept my D7000 over the LCD-2.2s..

I am kind of in that predicament right now, I really don't need both.
But which to keep !!??

DG- what have you done? Sold your D7k? I use my stock one very little but can not part with it, since I can not easily replace it

We have a love- hate relationship depending on my mood, it is all me:)

i have that same love-hate relationship with the D7000s, sometimes i just love them for their musicality and awesome bass, sometimes i feel them to be sibilant and muddy. ultimately, i find myself listen to the T1 the most. i've been curious on the HE-500 for quite some time now, i think i'm really going to like them, just hope the WA6-SE can drive them ok.

I really like the HE-500's, even more so than a properly amped HE-6.

I recently went to my local headphone shop an auditioned a bunch of cans in their price range, and the 500's were my favourite.

BUT, I like the D7000's more ! :)

I can understand the love-hate relationship if they were my only cans. But I often take breaks from them, and always come crawling back... craving their addictive lush sound.

Well said.

They are a cold beer at the end of the day, a rack of bar-b-que ribs dripping in sauce on a Sunday afternoon, a baby-blue Ford GT-40 on the PCH (sadly, I have to imagine this one) - they aren't perfect, but they are so satisfyingly good when you have a craving.

D7000 won't be leaving my stable.  They're just too fun.  Never heard the He-500 but I have heard the HE-6 and those are a treat.  On the flip side, they are a total pain to amplify...heard them on a proper unit and it was a treat.  I then changed units and plugged it into my amp (Audio-GD FUN).  It played decent just not very loud.

Anyways, if I want a more "neutral / air sound" I just swap to my HD600.  Can't really beat them for used price and performance for what ya get.  Personally I'm happy I have the best of both worlds...closed/V-shaped jamming (D7000) or neutral/open sound (HD600).

Lastly, out of curiousity, any places to buy the Fostex in the USA?  What's the price point of the TH-600/900 and where do those compare to our D7K?

For me my HE-500 can't come anywhere close to my HE-6 on the First Watt F1J amp.  The HE-500s are a really good headphone.  I like it better than the LCD-2.2s.  The D7000 just does that special thing to rap music..
