I think the LA 900 actually look worse than the stock TH 900, by a long shot. Its hard to make better cups than what the TH 900's a;ready have.

Wow.... I agree with this. Those mods don't suit the th900s at all.

Matrix M-Stage seems to be the crowd favorite. I just picked up one myself, and it's spectacular with the D7000's.

So the TH900 is functionally just a D7000 with a slightly fancier driver?

Agreed. The LA7000s did look great, but the stock TH-900s smoke the LA version.

I saw you ordered the TH 900. I'm hoping to see what you think about them specifically between the LCD 3 and if you previously had the D7000. And most importantly, whether you personally think they are worth $2k.

I've heard the TH-900s and was very impressed by them. Enough to sell my W3000ANVs today. That said, they are no LCD-3s. I'd still take the Audeze cans over any headphone that isn't called the SR-009.

I hear you, I was contemplating the W3000ANV's also but I listen to 99% electronic I heard that really wasn't their strength genre. I like things a little agressive, even though I still adore the Audeze's. I actually just got the LCD 3's last week, so I'm definetely a happy camper right now. But I think my next purchase is the TH 900's down the road, I can sell my denons but their kind of sentimental to me my first real taste in this whole thing, and their value is pretty high as of now. Then again if I have 2 Audeze and the Fostex, how would the denons ever get head time? Good problems to have though. Hope to see what you think in the near future.

Hey Erik,

I'll trade you a pair of the new D7100 for your K501's biggrin.gif

If that trade goes down, I wanna see it on video!

The Stax SR-009 I agree are probably one of the best headphones I've ever heard.  I got "WTF looks" from people at a local meet when I was jaming NiN and Armin through them but man do they sing!  Grossly overpriced for what you get but price aside they are the best I've heard.  HE-6 are a close second too!

I think once properly rigged up the HE-6 is a killer headphone. Most people don't give it enough power to give it justice though. The SR-009 are just.... jaw dropping though.

Thank you very much!  Not too expensive either. :)

What should I expect jumping from a Fiio e17 to something like an M-Stage?  Would it be that noticeable?

I would hope so, if you're paying for it. :p

I'm very happy with the M-Stage, and it's definitely a much better amp and a much better match with the D7000's.

Be sure to play with the gain, though. Try 10 and 18 and see which you prefer.

I would say that while the HE-6s are fantastic headphones (and in my top 5 or 6) the differences aren't close. I would put the LCD-3s and HD-800s in front of them (and likely the LCD-2s just behind them). Got a pair of TH-900s coming in, we'll see where they slot into this list.

Any idea of good amps for the TH 900's. I even saw someone on here a little while back reterminate it to xlr and use the mjolnir. Wouldn't that be crazy? I don't know if I could rock $2k headphones on a $250 amp, no disrespect to the asgard, I'm quite content with the asgard and d7000.
