If you don't have air conditioning in the Summer, well then the Denons are sweaty.

my roommate got his d5000 today and i am listening to them right now as i am waiting for my d7000 to come next week. they are warm but not sweaty. these are really visceral headphones, they make you want to bang your head! one thing i am hoping is d7000 cable isnt as microphonic as
d5000. the other thing i am wondering about is the squekiness of pleather, is that something that breaks in or has anyone verified that d7000 is leather?

Just so everybody is aware, J&R does not allow you to return headphones unless they are defective (I asked when I called today). B&H does - I know because I've returned headphones to them before.
One thing I noticed on B&H's site was this for the D7000

"This is a special order item and is non-cancelable or returnable. Est. arrival at B&H is 7-14 business days(subject to availability). You will be charged upon placing your order."

So I'm thinking you won't be able to return the phones as well since they are special ordered.

I think they call that All Sales Final.
We do the same thing on personal devices such as this. Lets face it who wants to put something on there head that needs disinfecting from the previous guy? Its kinda like a used hat only worse.

Yeah good word "visceral". With the right music and recording they can really touch you. My D7000's have about maybe 40 hours on them now. Man they are nice! Detailed mids and highs with nice lifelike bass. Just very realistic and pleasant to listen to. I was listening to Neil Young's Harvest the Japanese Import CD. WOW...I could hear everything and Neil never sounded so good.
I still am waiting for my Woo amp to come back from Woo Audio so I have been only listening through the sub-standard HP jack of my 15 year old Yamaha CD player.
The earpads look and feel like some kind of soft glove leather but it could be that really nice fake leather. No squeakiness and the cable doesn't seem microphonic to me at all.

Markl examined the D7000 earpads and concluded they are the same fake leather used on the D2000/D5000. I think he even said the earpads are the same across all three models.

The fake leather of the Denon earpads is very far from the pleather I've seen on cheaper headphones. It's soft, it breathes, and it does not squeak. I even thought the earpads on the D5000 were real leather until people on this forum pointed out they were not.

For people who have or have heard the D5000 and D7000, could you help answer a vague question.

Is the sound from the D7000 more "clear" than the D5000?

I suppose I should define "clear" but I unable to. Am I talking about the headphones revealing details? No. Am I talking about the midrange being back? No, not really.

At one point I was comparing the Denons to the ATH-AD900. With the AD900 the sound seemed to be more clear, but it wasn't that the AD900 revealed a mass of details that the Denon could not. Oddly enough, I let my spouse listen to both headphones and she said she preferred the AT900 because the sound had more clarity but she couldn't point out what she meant by clear either. Maybe the AD900 sounded more clear because it is not as smooth?

So, back to my question. Is the D7000 more clear than the D5000?

You guys must not bang your head hard enough to get it to squeak. It is pretty minor though. you do have to thrash rather aggressively to notice much. I am also happy these headphone grip well enough to headbang a bit. from some of the posts i thought they might be a bit loose, but no real problems there for me.

The Clarity bewteen the AT's and the Denons in my opinion, is a general sound signature difference. The AT900's were a more "Flat" reference quality that will show more details in certain ranges Where as the Denons have bass and high extension that can sometimes hide the mids and also some "Clarity"

That being said I don't think the 7k's are much clearer than the 5k's except for the fact that the basses and highs are more comtroled and will hide less of the clarity of the mids.

Is it more like the sound doesn't have a thick, haziness to it? It's less textured and thick and seems to pass through the headphone with more ease?
