I wouldn't do any more than get J$ pads. I found the MarkL mods changed the D5k's overall tonality... which did not suite my tastes.
The same thought would apply to ghe D7k. No mods or only the J$. But I have absolutely no reason to change any aspect of the sound of the D7k.

I have the newest Jmoney pads but not the D7000 to try them on just yet.

Do the pads really make a difference and which version do you have?

Thanks

I don't have any J$ pads. Sorry if what I wrote gave that impression, I was only saying that the J$'s is all I'd do (if I were to do anything) being that for my tastes the LA mods had an unfavorable effect on the D5k... as I liked their overall sound prior to mod.

For those in UK, you can get D7000 at £609 (the cheapest in UK) at Peter Dyson. They are authorised dealer of Denon. Don't miss the chance before they increase the VAT after JAN

I bought a pair of used ones for $600 as I thought the price in the UK is ridiculous.

I've seen them for 599 quid but I agree the UK price is ridiculous and I bought mine used as well for just over 600USD as well

Anyone here have the J$ pads who can confirm that they effect the sound as advertised? Also I was wondering if they increased the clamping a bit?

They increase the sound stage by placing the drivers farther away from your head, some will say the opposite but I feel the mids are brought out a little bit by the increase in distance, the bass is tamed down but still low and impactful especially if you have your cups dampened, and the V2's definitely have more of a clamping force than stock pads so they do stay on your head.

Overall I'm happy with the mod and like I've stated earlier, if you're interested in it don't be afraid to try it.  It's a highly reversible mod and if you don't like it then you can recuperate the vast majority of your funds by selling them to someone else on here.

Here's my assumption on MIDS and how pads affect it.. EQ and Amps can and will alter volume levels, but we're not talking about changing a sound electronically.

Neutral has all three in good balance. Nothing beats anything else. Once you start emphasizing something, there will be a sacrifice somewhere else

Heavy bass, heavy mids = rolled off/non-sparkly treble (i.e. ESW9, HD650)
Heavy Bass, heavy treble = recessed mids (i.e. most popular basshead cans, like the DT770 Pro 80)
Heavy mids, heavy treble = light bass (i.e. AD700, K701)

Th J$ pads are taming the bass, bringing out the mids, because the bass isn't as LOUD. I honestly doubt it makes the mids LOUDER, it just makes them easier to hear. It's the same as amps that roll off the treble. Since the treble isn't as energetic and loud, the mids become easier to hear.

I believe with all my heart that there is no such thing as gaining ground somewhere without sacrificing something else. If you want more mids, you're gonna to an extent lose either some bass or treble.

I have never heard the LCD 2, but people call it a very balanced headphone. I'm gonna go out on the limb here and say that if it is indeed as powerful in the bass department and as clear in the mids as people say it is, I guarantee the treble isn't gonna be to my liking, as it will undoubtedly be smoothed over.

The D7000 has a pretty gentle v shaped sound. It's colored enough to keep enough of the three to keep me completely happy. I don't need anything more, as I'm not willing to sacrifice the bass or sparkle to bring out the mids (which I'm extremely happy with anyway).

Seeing as I don't like neutral cans as they sound boring to me, I definitely want a colored sound that has bass and sparkle. The end result will be mids that won't be as loud as the lower and upper extremities...

I'm not a basshead. I'm a subtle bass and sparkly treblehead. Since my main emphasis will be on treble, there will be enough bass and mids to fit my needs.

That's a great and easy way to put it.  You hit it spot on about the pads not changing the way the sound is done electronically but rather how it shapes the sound directed into your ears.
