Microfiber

Thread Starter
I recently bought some microfiber cloths for the car and I noticed that they are much much different than the little microfiber cloths that I have for my glasses and sunglasses. The big cloths for the car feel very strange and kind of "rough-ish", for lack of a better term. It feels like they would scratch my tv or glasses if I used it. So, my question is: What is the difference between glasses and car microfiber cloths and is it safe to use them interchangeably?

I would also like to know this as I have the microfiber cloth from Monster for my LCD tv and it also feels rough to the touch.

I cant comment on the difference but i have several of the "rough" microfiber cloths aswell and they have not scratched and surfaces, i have used them for TV screens, glasses and other glass surfaces and TFT screens aswell

The rougher micro fiber cloth has longer strands of those suction cups than the ones you use for your glasses. This provides better...errr...cleaning ability for larger surfaces as opposed to the one you use for glasses. It also grips better.

My 2 cents anyway based on observations

This is what I use when I detail my car... They used to only be $15 for the same thing.

As far as the difference, I have no idea, but if it feels rough on your hands I would NOT buff your car with it.

I knew someone that would test out econo microfibers (Sam's/Costco/etc.) on the back of CDRs and would end up with some scratches, but I would imagine that eyeglass lenses are a little tougher in comparison to CDs.

Actually, I think you're on to something there. I had some for lenses similar to the ones used in snowboarding, which I only clean with microfiber. They were the larger, "rougher" , cloths and they cleaned the lenses fine. I have a lens that is still in amazing condition, whereas my glasses are fairly scratched up. Obviously, I use my glasses more often, but they are of similar age, and the lens has always been cleaned with my larger cloth. I'm sure they can be interchanged, but I do not guarantee it. I'm also sure there are some crappy cloths that I wouldn't suggest to be used on anything.
