Sennheiser PX 100, fake or real? - Page 2

Doesn't come with a case = fake. Period. On the real PX100, it is packed inside the case in the box.

also if you notice the real ones have the gray piece around the peg hole

that looks fake to me.....

Glad I recently checked this thread. Bought a pair on eBay last January. Turned out that the balance was off so I contacted the seller and he/she sent a new pair without a single question. As they were about $30 I was pretty happy about this. Then the good pair's arm snapped as I put it on my head. Since I had the old set I was able to easily replace it, but then it snapped after about a month or so. These shiny black ones were clearly very brittle. (The joint where the headphone attaches was also very weak and one of the flanges broke on the first pair as well.) Luckily at an unspecified electronic store that sells these things I mentioned the problem and the kind fella said I could bring in the broken set for an exchange as Senn seemed to be good about that kind of stuff. Sweet! Noticing that the new pair looked different (mat plastic), felt different (sturdier joints) and sounded marginally (!) better than the first pair, I consulted this forum to realize that I unintentionally had a dubious set swapped with a legit one. Pretty lucky, I figure. I hope these ones last a lot longer than the first two.

If the headphones are in a plastic case, then yes. If not, they are fakes

Heh, you have to admit if even Sennheiser was fooled by a fake of their own products, they must be fairly convincing eh

I'm not to sure. The worker at the electronic boutique likely had no idea, as did I. I'm sure that by the time they get to Senn's facilities, somebody will have found out. Not that I'm complaining. If I knew they were actually fakes--yes, with no plastic case in all the examples that I mentioned--I don't know if I would have pulled that fast one on them. Regardless, the fakes are very convincing to new buyers and also sound pretty good. When I got the first pair, I raved about it for about a week. I wonder if they use the same drivers?

Hi there. I've just registered on the forums after searching Google for "fake px100" and looking at this thread. I was hoping that someone might be able to clear something up for me --
I've just received a pair of black PX100 headphones from an Amazon seller to replace my white ones, where the wire got frayed and now only the left ear works. This new black pair came in its box with the grey plastic and with the headphone case. However, the wire might just be very slightly smaller, and more noticeably the jack at the end of the phone is different from my white pair. The white pair has a sort of a... ribbed and flexible portion leading into the metal jack, while the new black pair has a thinner and smooth black cap that the jack leads out of. Hopefully I'm describing this adequately enough. The jack seems a little looser in the jacks (but mostly just in my iPod Touch, so it could just very well be that).
Can anyone comment on the difference of the jack portions of the phones? Everything else seems fine between the two -- both have the same smaller sized Sennheiser logo at the top of the bands, the CE emblem on the inside of the bands (actually, the black one has the CE logo with thinner lettering and it has what looks like an Xed out trashcan type logo just above that -- I didn't even realize until looking at it right now). The PX100 writing on both sides of the bands are facing the right way as well.

It seems like it could go either way. I wish it was easier for me to compare the sound quality, but it's not so with the white ones being off. If the white PX100s were as easy to find, I'd want to get another pair of those.

From my understanding there were two revisions of the real PX100. The newer version was brought forward a few years ago, and might explain those changes.

Thank you for the quick reply. Your input and this other guide/review that I just found: Fake Sennheiser PX100's helps clear up the doubts that either one of my pairs are real!

yes - my "real ones" are not the build quality of my mum's older "real ones"

foam pads are more substantial and higher quality on the older ones, overall sound is a lot smoother too
