"Overpriced" is the key word.

Truth be told, I am impressed by Bose's effective marketing.
lol, i agree with that... if their audio cables sounds like coat hangers, then obviously somethings wrong.
at least bose's comparison is still within their CATEGORY.

Signal Cable is another reasonable low price but good quality cable maker.

Another is S^2 Audio

There are many DIYers on Head-Fi , so dont be afraid of them and think good cables can only come from big companies.

When people refer to Monster Cable as overpriced, are they usually referring to suggested retail price, or street price?

Some of their higher end RCA interconnects retail at $129.99:

Monster Cable -- Ultra Series THX® 1000 Audio Interconnects

While you can commonly find them for a fraction of that price:

Amazon.com: Used and New: Monster Cable Ultra 1000 RCA Stereo Audio Cables 8 FT

I mean, I don't think many at Head-Fi would say that Sennheiser's HD-650s are worth their $599 retail price, but are definitely justified at half that.

I can't imagine the Monster's THX 1000 interconnects can be that horrible at $35 shipped.

AJ Van Den Hul started all this cable madness. The D300 Mk III is one of their basically decent interconnects.

I agree with this. I have never paid full price for monster I usually find cables at Radio Shack for more than 50% off normal prices. So being patient is also a good bet to find decent cables at cheap prices.

I wholeheartedly disagree, actually. The HD650 balanced is considered one of the best, period. The reason the market price is $300-350 is that there are numerous units available. I can say that these headphones are worth $600, and I could find people here who would, if given no other options, pay that amount. When a headphone is mentioned in the same breath as the other "best ever" contenders, then we are talking about serious worth. HD650 is a truly amazing headphone, and $300 is a flat out steal.

A balanced HD650 at retail price would be $600 for the cans + ~$300 for the cable. That's a whole lot of dollars.

If anyone would like to purchase HD650s at $599, I'd be glad to sell them a pair. In fact, I'll throw in free shipping.

At any rate, fair market value of Monster cable is MUCH lower than what you see them for on the shelf at Circuit City or wherever. I think it is a little unfair to judge the cables at big-chain-store-pricing when pretty much everything is a rip-off at suggested retail price.

But maybe I'm biased because I'm running Monster THX cables in my set-up now, though I paid less than $50 for "$200" worth of cable at retail price.

I have Blue Jeans speaker cables for my Sonic T Amp and like them alot. I love how you can order any length and you can terminate them yourself and they look very nice. Thumbs up. Great cable company. Same with Signal Cable too.

Monster Cables are decent too but I'd rather buy Philips brand cables at Walmart because they look prettier.

I have ordered from blue jeans a few times and would definitly recommend them. They also ship very fast. I've also purchased speaker cables from monoprice.com as their non in-wall ones are very cheap. Don't know about interconnectors though.

Honestly, I'm gonna veer from the pack a bit and suggest monoprice cables. For only $2.19 each when QTY 50+ purchased - PREMIUM 2 RCA Plug/2 RCA Plug M/M 22AWG Cable - 6ft | RCA Audio Cables
Ridiculously low price and very solid build quality - plus, they're all 75 ohm - audibly, there's no difference between these and BJC.

FYI, I am having excellent success with My Audio Cables (Source and HC power cords/AgQ interconnect)
My Audio Cables

and EVS (IC100 PCOCC interconnect) cables.
Cables and Accessories

Am currently waiting on a "NOS" set of Millersound interconnects. The Millersounds are great cables for the money, IMHO, embarrassing the likes of Kimber Kable, AudioQuest, PAD, Yamamura, etc., IMHE. They were my "cables of choice" when I had my dedicated listening room and conventional speaker rig. (I had Virtual Mode Clear Power AC cables in that rig, too.)

Since Millersound, and now with EVS and MAC, I don't even look at the popular--typically (grossly) over-priced--brands anymore.

It's so fashionable to bash Monstercables.

But the truth is that while they make some average quality cables at the bottom end of the range, they also make some damn good cables, that compare very well with "supercables" that cost much more. And I say that after actually using the cables in my systems.
