Review: The BIG Yuin Comparison (PK series - OK series) - Page 4

Hello,

IEMs give you one single wonderful advantage, which is isolation. You could go around a town with 500$ open headphones (I tried doing so with the modded portable Stax system) and you wouldn't enjoy their superior sound with the background noise. So, if you are going to spend cash for a portable headphone, I suggest that you go for a IEM.

The OK2 are pretty good but I wouldn't suggest them for hip hop (and they are a bit too polite for rock too). I think your best bet, everything considered, are Klipsch Image X10. They are less than 200$ on Amazon.com (and you could also search elsewhere, try Google Product Search) and overall some of the best deals in portable headphone realm when you find them for less than 200 bucks (but not for the original price tag, that was 349$).

The Yuin PK1 are equally great, but you would need an amp that kills portability, convenience and the overall quality/price ratio.

Misstype RE0 for RE, just edited.

Thanks so much for the quick response,

I should have been a little clearer, the rock i listen is definitely hard rock and probably closer in genre to metal which is why i was leaning toward the ok2.

Also, i apologize for my lack of knowledge on the subject but what are the differences in sound signatures that you are referring to?

Also what model is the RE that you referred to?

Thanks again for your help and advice. It's great to have someone knowledgeable walk me through this

Our earphone authority kostalex is spot on. Still, the RE0 excell at treble and are too soft with bass (especially extention) and as such hip hop wouldn't be much represented by them. I found them to excel with electronica (due to the great speed and hyperdetailed, but smooth feeling). The other RE0 flaw, the recessed midrange, takes away some enjoyment from rock too.

I am a bit lazy to describe the difference between ER-6i and OK2. Anyway, my description would be semi-useless since I have no ER-6i and audio memory is delusive. You may compare reviews of OK2 with your real knowledge of ER-6i sound better yourself.

would i need an amp with the RE0 or the image x10?

RE0 is nice without amp.

Both are fine without it, but the RE0 have lower sensitivity so you might have problems reaching loud volumes depending on the dap.

His Nano has enough power for both.

Hi antonyfirst,

Thanks for this great review. Can you please explain the difference between PK1 and PK3 as their is extreme price change between these two. I was considering PK3 as mainly wants to use it with my Dell laptop. Is there a significant difference in these two?

Also which is the amp suggested to go with PK1? I am not looking for something very pricy.

Any other headphones you can suggest which are of good quality and lower price than PK1?

Thanks,
Shurap1

The comparison between PK1 and PK3 are discussed extensively in other threads, including the PK3 appreciation thread going around. Be sure to take a look.

Have someone here ever compared the PFE against the PK1 or OK1 both amped and unamped? Which of the two sounds "closer" to the PFE signature? If they sound close, can we say that the PFE sounds like the OK1 and the PK1 sounds like an IE8? Hope somebody could give me an idea on how these compare to each other. Thanks.

For those interested in alternative to earbuds - I've compared the best clip-ons I heard:

Yuin G1A, ATH-EW9, ultramodded KSC-35, Yuin G2A, DYI Grado clip-ons, KSC-75.

Note on the Yuin G1A and G2A clip ons, first they sound fantastic and blow away the Koss units. Be advised that although the G2A only needs 100 hours of burn in the G1A needs at least 200 hours, otherwise you will not hear the improvement that can be heard starting at about 175 hours of burn in.
